“He is out there kicking ass” Nick Wright gets brutally honest on Luka Doncic’s addiction to cola and cigarettes
Nick Wright talks about Luka Doncic
Dallas Mavericks megastar Luka Doncic is currently on international duties. He is making his usual buzz with intelligent gameplay and shot-making. But also there is one dark side of Luka revealed during his Slovakian duties, as he was reportedly spending time smoking cigarettes and drinking soda before a recent international game. Luka is known for his Cigar love and even was captured drinking soda very often. But analyst Nick Wright sees longer effects of these addictions and has some advice for young NBA stars.
On his “What’s Wright? With Nick Wright” podcast, the analyst took the subject in hand and used the opportunity to pour some senses into Luka Doncic. He said, “Luka’s gotta know better than to drink soda. Listen, I’m not gonna knock him for a delicious cigarette. Every once in a while, you just need a delicious cigarette. You just do. Soda’s toxic. Soda is no good for you. Luka, I can look the other way on the cigarette. Let’s put healthier things into our body than cola.”
Giving his own example, Nick tried to make a point to Doncic. He added, “I’m still wearing them. It’s been 15 years of nicotine patches. Cigarettes are a hard habit to kick, and the fact that Luka is out here kicking ass and taking names while dragging a few heaters, it just adds to his legend.”
Well, for athletes both habits are never advisable, which has more or less adverse effects on their health. We hope that Luka follows Nick Wright’s podcast as he has valid points for the young emerging superstar.
Luka Doncic is working hard to take Dallas Mavericks to the glory.
Slovakian youngster Luka Doncic has been one of the NBA’s brightest talents in his four seasons. The third draft pick in 2018 has already made three All-Star teams and three All-NBA teams. He was a regular name on the MVP probable list with his consistent Triple-double performances for the Mavs. The Texas-based franchise also had great success with Luka on the court.
Doncic has shown improvements in every season steadying his win-loss record above 56%. But the 2011 champions need more than that to win their 2nd NBA title in 40+ seasons. Mark Cuban franchise won 2 conference titles and 1 NBA championship, during that period, but looked slid with Doncic in the team in recent seasons.
In the 2022 post-season, after beating Utah Jazz in 6 games, Doncic led the Dallas Mavericks to a surprising seven-game semi-final win over the top-seeded and strong contenders Phoenix Suns. Dallas then lost to the Golden State Warriors in 5 games in the conference Finals.
23-year-old superstar tied with Giannis Antetokounmpo for most points per game in the playoffs, averaging 31.7 points per game, while collecting astonishing 9.8 rebounds and dishing out 6.4 assists in 15 games played.
The massive productions were not enough to win it all, but Docic and Mavericks looked to make it even more fruitful in 2023. Luka, in particular, was regularly criticized for his bulky body and slow game speed. While on international duties, irrespective of his Cola and Cigarettes consumption, he worked hard to shred some weight and get back in ‘NBA shape’.
The Mavericks also attempted to surround Doncic with more talent by swinging a trade for Christian Wood with the Houston Rockets in June. Despite losing their second-leading scorer Jalen Brunson, many believe the Mavericks will field a better roster than last season. Former Rockets Center Wood is seen as a great addition to the roster and gives the Mavericks a big man who can space the floor alongside Doncic.
Like Nick, many may make a big deal of Doncic’s habit, particularly since he had his worst game of the tournament. But it’s hard to say if his habits affected his performance. Presumably, this isn’t the first time that he has had a cigarette or soda the night before a game, and he has been a stellar player thus far in his career.
Mavericks would be looking to bank on their new pairing of Docic and Wood to give desired results, with Spencer Dinwiddie, Tim Hardaway Jr., Dorian Finney-Smith, Maxi Kleber, and 3-time NBA Champion JaVale McGee.
