Nick Wright and Chris Broussard on First things First over Luka Doncic
Nick Wright got the bragging rights as Dallas Mavericks turned on the heat and defeated Phoenix Suns in game 4 to level their respective semi-final series. Nick wasted no chance to hit back at fellow sports media personality, Chris Broussard for his brutal prediction and mocking Nick for choosing Luka Doncic, Mavs.
Dallas Mavericks made sure their home-court record remains intact as they have lost just 1 playoff game in 2022 postseason till now. Luka Doncic and company made their intentions clear to the top seed Phoenix Suns, as they extended the series at least to game 6, by winning game 4. There is no doubt that the Mavs were ecstatic with the win but more than that Nick Wright was having some payback time with Chris Broussard. He took his shot at Chris Broussard and Kendrick Wildes while talking on “First things First” show.
The story goes back to 29th April 2022, when Luka Doncic and Mavs won their 1st playoff series against any opponent and Nick predicted a bright future for the player. But Chris Broussard distances himself from the Dallas’ series win and even mocked Nick for “too early comment” on Luka.
What was the banter between Nick Wright and Chris Broussard?
Going back to the Mavs series win over Utah Jazz, Nick predicted that Luka Doncic can be the difference-maker for the Dallas team and will take them to next level providing strong reference to his performances. But Chris was quick with a negative response to that saying, “I don’t care what the numbers say. He has won 1 playoff round, one…. It’s too early like KD would say, ‘too soon bro’.”
But Nick was not letting his point go, he gave the reference of Larry Bird praising young Michael Jordan when he also had won just 1 playoff series. As per Nick, it was Larry’s vision for the GOAT Jordan, but everyone made fun of him. But sports columnist Chris Broussard rubbishes those comparisons and added his views.
He reminded Nick about the 2021 series loss against the Clippers after a healthy 2-0 lead, also some downside of Luka’s gameplay which might not give him chance against Top seed Phoenix Suns. But reality after the discussion was different; Luka Doncic averaged 40 points in Mavs losses at Phoenix and 26 in wins at Dallas. He was consistent with his performances and found some support in the last 2 games to snatch important wins.
With dominating wins over last season’s NBA Finalist and this season’s Tops seed Phoenix Suns, Nick got the energy and strong arsenal to throw at Broussard. He said, “These weren’t close games. The Mavericks led for the final 42 minutes of both games! No lead changes, no ties, just utter and total domination, which is odd for a team that between the two of you [Broussard and Wildes], you had to win .5 games in the series.”
Furious over the last debate, Nick Wright added, “I could be gracious here, I could offer you guys olive branches, but I’m fresh out of them because you guys mocked me, you mocked my son, you mocked my family. You’re out here saying, ‘Oh, Luka Doncic, I know he’s averaging 35 points per game, but how good is he really?’ That bleeping good is how good he is really.”
After the series is tied at 2 games apiece, Nick and Broussard will have yet another game for discussion as Dallas will travel to Footprint Arena, Arizona next, tomorrow night.
