“Who are you and where do you wanna be” Nick Wright urges the Lakers to make some stern moves to contest for the title alongside LeBron James
Nick Wright on Los Angeles Lakers and their preferences between LeBron James and Russell Westbrook
Sports media personality and analyst Nick Wright suggests that Los Angeles Lakers’ plans are not fitting LeBron James’ aspirations and if they couldn’t do much about the same. Especially after a horrendous 2021-22 season, if they cannot make stern moves to fight for the silverware, they should trade King James.
Los Angeles Lakers are looking to fill their voids that would let them forget all about abysmal 2022 season. With the aim being to being back glory days to the Hollywood, Wright feels major changes are required. Lakers started by replacing Frank Vogel with Darvin Ham. They are looking to add some potent support to him. But their reluctance to part ways with Russell Westbrook raises many questions in mind. Nick Wright was stern with his comments and asks for moves that would help LeBron James win more titles.
Nick on the First Take made sure that Los Angeles Lakers’ front office would get the wake-up call and work faster on taking the “right decisions”. Their decision to keep Russell Westbrook makes no sense to Wright.
Nick Wright believes that Los Angeles Lakers are failing to support LeBron James
NBA analyst Wright is looking at the Lakers’ movements and according to him, the signs are not positive. As Per Nick if the LA Lakers are not going to support LeBron James and even get into a winning position, they should let him go to another championship aspiring team.

Los Angeles Lakers star is in Year 19, and still playing at the highest level. But his brilliance was not enough to lead 17-time NBA champions beyond the finish line. Lakers added Russell Westbrook in the 2021 offseason, but that didn’t prove fruitful. Rather the former MVP’s poor performance in the 2021-22 season has made him a tough player to get rid of and to keep in the team too.
As per Athletic reports, teams are demanding a 2027 first-round pick for Russell Westbrook, if they are considering making a trade for Westbrook. But the LA Lakers expressed their disinterest in giving up their pick along with the point guard, halting the possible trade. After which LA office confirmed that they will keep Westbrook, at least for one more season, giving the former scoring champion another chance at the Purple and Gold.
Nick Wright though believes that it would be unfair to LeBron James. Speaking about the team on “First Things First,” the analyst said, “At this point the Lakers have to make a decision. Who are you and who do you wanna be and how much do you owe LeBron James?”
He added his anger in the comment as he further said, “Because if you are not willing to part ways with a seventh grader to be named player, via in the form of your unprotected 2027 or 2029 draft pick, then you know what trade LeBron James instead, honestly.”
Megastar LeBron James already has a very illustrations career. He won 4 NBA titles and 4 NBA Finals MVP Awards in his 19 seasons on the hardwood. He only missed the playoffs four times in his career, highlighting his consistency. Sadly for the Lakers though, two of those have been in their Jersey.
With age not more on his side, LeBron James has still proven to be a competitor and winner with deadly plays. However, the front office needs to provide optimal support cast around him if they are to win another championship in the limited window left. Nick goes further to ask to trade for LeBron as he said, “If you don’t think you can compete for a title this year, right now, immediately, then trade LeBron. LeBron’s got what, at best, two MVP levels seasons left in him.”
Questioning Lakers’ priorities, Nick expressed some concerns. “If you are so concerned about a 2027 draft pick … that you are going to waste at best LeBron’s two remaining great years” He added, “then move on from it, but if you’re not going to thread the needle of competing for a title & keeping Russell Westbrook, it’s just ridiculous.”
A big market franchise like Los Angeles Lakers is always in win-now mode and adding LeBron James, and Anthony Davis proved fruitful for them. But even if the Russell Westbrook thing didn’t work for them, trading LBJ might not go well with the front office. We will have to wait till the start of next season to see the changes the Lakers sought out for the Championship.
Maybe Westbrook prove everyone wrong in the upcoming season if he stays with the LA side and performs like his MVP season, or even LeBron and AD pull strings again and deliver a championship like the 2020 season. Nevertheless, LA Land is always full of possibilities.
