Nikola Jokic finally voiced his opinion on the MVP race at a post-game interview after blowing out the Lakers in 4 games as the Denver Nuggets advanced to the NBA Finals for the first time in team history.

Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets finished their business as they swept the Lakers in a 113-111 blowout win at Crypto Arena. Jokic and Murray showed up combining for 55 points to outlast a 40-point performance from LeBron James who recorded 31 points in the first half alone.

The MVP race this year was as close as ever with Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokoumpo finishing as the finalists for the MVP race. Jokic had a historic run this season averaging 24.5 points, 9.8 Assists and 11.8 rebounds per game but was outclassed by Embiid as the Sixers star finally gets the Award after edging on the list for a few years now.

Embiid got 31 first-place votes for the NBA MVP award as compared to Jokic who only got 7 first-place votes. Critics and fans were not impressed with the final result as they thought Jokic had a more impressive run than Embiid and that the award was due to voter fatigue who wouldn’t want to see Jokic bag three straight MVP awards without winning a championship yet? Jokic on the other hand thinks that it is unfair for the fans to ridicule Embiid who had a great regular season and that the award was given to the right candidate.

In the post-game interview, Jokic quoted: “I don’t think about MVPs anymore. People are just mean & saying that [Joel] Embiid shouldn’t have won it. I think he should have won it… he was playing … extremely, extremely tough basketball through the whole season.”

LeBron James sparks RETIREMENT rumours after loss to the Nuggets

LeBron James did all he could to keep the Lakers’ championship hopes alive in game 4 by scoring 40 points but wasn’t enough to outlast the Jokic-led Denver Nuggets team. The Lakers were totally outplayed by the Nuggets through the whole series even though the Lakers featured the likes of Anthony Davis and LeBron, this loss served as the first playoff sweep for the King.

LeBron with this loss completed his 20th season in the NBA, as a 38-year-old LeBron still showed us that he can still share the same light with the brightest stars in the league as he averaged 24.5 points, 9.9 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game with an efficient 58.4 true shooting %.

Although rumours of LeBron waiting on the arrival of Bronny in the NBA floats around, there is also huge speculation that LeBron is nearing retirement. This speculation was further fueled when LeBron himself told Bleacher Report – “I’m simply not sure if I’ll be back in the fall when the season begins.” James still has two years left on his $97 million contract, but the final year is a bit tricky as it is a player option.

James had expressed that he wants to play with Bronny who is projected to be in the 2024 NBA Draft class. This can result in James leaving the Lakers and signing a minimum deal with whoever drafts Bronny James for a last dance season. This is very much possible as James is still one of the best players in the league getting selected in the All-NBA third team and leading a crooked Lakers roster to the Western Conference finals, he will still be sought after by many teams.
