Nikola Jokic finally went onto join the elite list of NBA greats- Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain, after winning second consecutive MVP accolade. While many thought Joel Embiid would edge the Denver Nuggets marquee over this time around, the Serbian surely had no doubts as he managed to once again win the highest individual basketball award.

After admitting that he was only needling Shaq during the interview by Ernie Johnson, Jokic gave a heartwarming reply to the big Hall of Famer sledging him, “I don’t think about it now, but when I’m old, fat and grumpy, hopefully, I’m gonna remember and I’m going to tell my kids back in the day I was really good playing basketball.”

Jokic added, “Everybody knows that I’m the same guy. Hopefully, I’m gonna stay the same after this. Just to be in that company with Wilt and the older guys who made history in this league and in this sports. Just that tells a lot, it means a lot.”

Just to those who are not aware, Nikola Jokic is only the fifth center in NBA history to win back-to-back MVPs. He joined the illustrious and elusive group of Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (twice) and Moses Malone.

Given that Nuggets have a task cut-out on their hands with couple of their marquee players returning to join forces with Nikola Jokic, it will be interesting to witness if they are able to make a deep run into the playoffs, to break the early-round jinx. Will we ever see the Serbian manage to win the NBA Finals MVP? Who can tell, but at least he can try with full venom.
