The Western Conference Semi-Finals are off to an emphatic start. The Denver Nuggets hosted the Los Angeles Lakers at Ball Arena for Game 1. Both teams were coming off a dominating win in Games 6 against the opponents. However, Denver had the upper hand playing at home. The Lakers were trailing for the most part of the game as Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic were once again on top of their games. However, Anthony Davis and LeBron James almost led LA to a come back.
Anthony Davis had a formidable night as he put up 40 points with 10 rebounds next to his name. LeBron James and Austin Reaves had quite a decent 26 and 23-point game. On the other hand, Jamal Murray was once again exceptional with 31 points. However, the show was stolen by Nikola Jokic as the two time MVP picked up yet another triple double with 34 points, 21 rebounds and 14 assists. The score at the end of regulation was 126-132
After his stellar performance in Game 1, Nikola Jokic was all over the NBA News as he made history against the Lakers. Jokic has recorded his 4th career playoff game with 30 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists, the most by any player in NBA history. Moreover, he is the third player to have a 30-point and 20-rebound triple double joining an elite list with Wilt Chamberlain and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. As he makes headlines, fans and critics are drawing out comaprisons with the MVP of the 2022-23 NBA season; Joel Embiid.
NBA Twitter calls Nikola Jokic more deserving of MVP

The entire NBA fandom is in praise and awe of Jokic. The Nuggets Center has been a dominating force all season. There’s no doubt that he’s been the X-factor for them in their success so far this season. However, fans are also using his performance to bash Joel Embiid. Many fans are claiming that Jokic was more deserving of the MVP award for the third straight time. Fans also claim that the difference between the two players is clear as Embiid was eliminated after a poor Game 7 performance. However, Jokic keeps on leading his side from the front. Here are a few fan reactions on Twitter.
There’s no doubt that Nikola Jokic has been absolutely phenomenal this season. The Denver Nuggets can only hope that he, alongside Jamal Murray, can beat the Lakers and advance to the NBA Finals. LeBron James and the Lakers on the other hand would have to come up with a plan to stop the Nuggets. As of now, Denver leads the series 1-0 as both teams prepare for Game 2.
