The French big man will miss the Sacramento games as the rookie plans to open up the season in the Las Vegas Summer League. The Spurs and the Hornets will open the exhibition games on July 7 and is expected to attract high footfall as the match will feature Wembanyama and the No.2 pick Brandon Miller going head-to-head.

The Spurs have not yet decided on how many games the 19-year-old would play but it is suspected that he will not be involved in a high volume of games in an attempt to preserve the 7-footer for the upcoming regular season.

The new French basketball sensation is reported to take a backseat in the upcoming World Cup as Wembanyama has told reporters that he decided to miss the FIBA World Cup to prepare his body for the upcoming NBA season.

The 7-foot-4 prodigy said that he made the decision to make sure his body gets the required rehabilitation before he embarks on his NBA career, Wemby said:  “I can’t base myself on people who look like me. So you need specific preparation, personalized anticipation. You can’t leave anything to chance. There’s a real risk of overload, and therefore of injury, which could have an impact on what happens next.”

With Wemby expected to play in the pre-season, a World Cup might be too much for the big man as he will have to get ready for a 82 games regular season also given that Victor recently finished playing a full 42 games in the French league where he took his team all the way to the Finals.

The French basketball federation is expected to release its preliminary roster for the World Cup later this week and even with the absence of Wemby, France is still high up in the World Rankings heading into the World Cup.
