“Nothing in the league can stop him” – 76ers star’s father SLAMS FRANCHISE
Tobias Harris' father believes the SIxers haven't used his son correctly.
Torrel Harris and Tobias Harris
Tobias Harris has been made available on the trading block by the Philadelphia 76ers. The franchise is already struggling with the James Harden drama and wants to be in a better position to keep the team rolling around Joel Embiid. So them trying to exchange Tobias Harris this summer is understandable. Next season they’ll have to pay him around $40 million and that’s also the last year of his contract and the new CBA would be a problem for the franchise.
Tobias Harris could have been a better player if it wasn’t for the Sixers and ex-coach Doc Rivers. As Torrel Harris, father and agent of Tobias Harris believes the franchise has been misusing his son in the system and he isn’t really trusted in the correct way. Harris recently appeared on the “Business of Sports,” podcast and there he discussed how the Philadelphia 76ers and ex-coach Doc Rivers have his son in a corner.
While sitting alongside Michael Barr and Damian Sassower, Torrel Harris called out the Philadelphia 76ers and quoted: “Personally, I don’t think so. The reason I say that, well Tobias is an assassin scorer. I mean they can’t stop him. Nobody in the league can stop him. So he’s proven that over his career even when he was with the Clippers he was an assassin scorer…. And then [L.A.] traded him ’cause they got too good… So they traded him to the Sixers. Ever since the Sixers,’ they put him in the corner.”
Honestly, Torrel Harris isn’t wrong with his take. As with the Los Angeles Clippers Tobias Harris was putting up numbers consistently. But with the Sixers, he was never given the opportunity to do so and wasn’t trusted enough with the ball. For the past two years, Tobias Harris was the fourth option of the team after Joel Embiid, James Harden, and Tyrese Maxey.
The Philadelphia 76ers initially trusted him and even chose him over Jimmy Butler. But unfortunately, they failed to use him correctly and now they are about to part ways with him after a disappointing run. As things won’t really change in the new system under HC Nick Nurse.
Philadelphia 76ers tried to trade Tobias Harris to the Cleveland Cavaliers
The Philadelphia 76ers recently tried to shop Tobias Harris around by exchanging him for an outrageous package to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Sixers really think Tobias Harris has great market value after using him as the fourth option for years. The 76ers front office really asked for a while package in return for Harris. They demanded Jarrett Allen, Evan Mobley, and a Draft Pick for him.
The Cleveland Cavaliers didn’t get clowned here and made the right decision. As giving up two core players who can be future superstars for a 30-year-old Tobias Harris who hasn’t suited up with a main role for years would be foolish.
The Sixers though will still try to get better and improve before the next season. And, try to reconstruct their roster this summer in case they end up losing some of their superstars.
