The Serbian ironman, Novak Djokovic stands alone at the top of the Tennis world after he captured his 23rd Grand Slam Title in the French Open Final.

Novak Djokovic beats Nadal’s record to break the tie for most Grand Slam Titles in history after his win against Casper Ruud at Court Philippe Chatrier in a very dominant fashion, with a 7-6 (1), 6-3, 7-5 victory. The match lasted over 3 hours but was clearly a game for Djokovic to win.

The Serbian SportStar when asked about his record-breaking game, he mentioned the great Kobe Bryant’s mentality and work ethic as his motivation, quoted: “Mamba Mentality, Kobe Bryant. You know it’s going to happen already before it actually happens. I truly believe in that power. Mental power, projecting your thoughts and creating your future.”

Kobe was known for his insane work ethic and his strive for greatness and this same mentality might have also trickled down to Djokovic, as the 36-year-old is the only man to win three titles from each major event, he has won 10 trophies at the Australian Open, seven at Wimbledon and three at the US Open and with this win, he now adds three French Open titles(2016, 2021 & 2023) to his trophy haul.

Djokovic now sets his eye to win another title at Wimbledon as his chase for tennis greatness is still alive, with his 23 Grand Slam titles tying Serena William’s record he is now on his path to tying or even break Margaret Court’s 24 Grand Slam Titles for the most by anyone in Tennis history.

Back in the 2019 US Open, Kobe Bryant was at the ESPN open-air panel for the event and he revealed that he and Novak Djokovic shared a mentor-mentee relationship. This is nothing new as Bryant was known for spreading his knowledge to other athletes and Djokovic was no exception.

The following year Djokovic was asked about his relationship with Kobe, and he said “Kobe has been one of my mentors … I’ve had several phone conversations with him and when we see each other live”, citing the elbow injury he recently recovered from during that time he said that Kobe was one of the main reasons why he was able to recover – “He was one of the people that was really there for me … And could give me valuable advices and guidelines … I love Kobe, who doesn’t.”

Their deep connection was also seen by the whole world when Djokovic gave Kobe his flowers shortly after Bryant’s death back in 2020, “I had that fortune to have that personal relationship with him over the last 10 years … When I needed advice and some support, he was there for me, he was my mentor, my friend.”

Djokovic is still honouring Kobe Bryant three years after his death by donning the Mamba Mentality and the basketball world is forever rooting for the Serbian tennis Legend.
