After Los Angeles Lakers acquired Russell Westbrook to partner alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, many expected the purple and gold to make a strong championship run. However, since the pre-season games, Lakers seemed to be out of shape and eventually fazed out of the postseason after lacklustre effort. The majority of the blame fell upon the shoulders of Brodie, expecting him to be ruled out of the team ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Finishing 33-49 in the 2021-22 season, Lakers’ locker room is expected to go via some big changes. One of which has been Frank Vogel’s sacking. While many believe Los Angeles Lakers‘ roster needs retooling, Russell Westbrook was the first name which comes to any fanatic’s mind while discussing a trade in the offseason.

Despite the rumors, reports on LA’s head coaching search suggest that Russ could remain with the Lakers for the upcoming season, as noted by Sam Amick of The Athletic. The Lakers’ front office has reportedly asked coaching candidates about the prospect of using Westbrook in their system. The focus on Westbrook in these interviews may indicate that Los Angeles plans on running it back with the former MVP, and attempting to maximize his performance and contribution to team success.

Moreover, with veteran coach Phil Jackson helping Jeanie Buss in selecting the ideal coaching candidate, the former is a big-time fan of Brodie and will surely advice a scenario with him in the yellow stride.

Brodie has been humiliated by majority of the personnel in and around the NBA world. So, he has all the more reason to go out and shine to earn his name back.

In defense of Russell Westbrook, he has been on the move for the past three seasons. Which gave him no time to settle in a franchise, will the Lakers take a risk by giving Westbrook another chance? Especially when LeBron James has only 1 season remaining on his current contract? Remains to be seen.
