“Lost his mind,” Pat Beverley didn’t mince words during his assessment of Ja Morant’s situation, says it all stems from “bad parenting” and music

Patrick Beverley recently chipped in about Ja Morant and the controversy the point guard has been embroiled in. The new Chicago Bulls player is not the one to mince his words. And according to him, Morant’s recent series of behaviors has been troubling, and the fellow NBA player has an idea where it’s stemming from.

When asked about his thoughts on Morant’s situation, the 34-year-old didn’t hold back. According to him, all of Morant’s problems stem from poor parenting and the current rap culture, which has a massive influence on today’s youth.

“Lost his mind. Parenting, parenting,” Beverley started. “Fame mixed with success mixed with a ton of money mixed with a ton of freedom in the wrong hands, it’s not a good poster,” he added. The point guard then pivoted to the hip pop culture aspect and the bad influence it has had on Morant.

“I think music has a lot to do with this now,” Beverley said. “Especially with this culture. Everyone holding a gun in the video is okay. You know, bling on your teeth is okay. Pants half down you’re a**, that’s okay. So, that’s okay now. Back in the day, there was a m*********r on the beach in a silk shirt talking about some ‘yeah baby, let’s party like we’re in the 80s.’ Everybody had on silk shirts, and everybody was dressed the same. It’s just a product of what we listen to,” he continued.

“The culture now is ‘shoot them up, bang bang, bang bang shoot them up, bend you over, I got this amount money, I’m on private jets,’ That’s what the younger generation is. Sadly to say, it should be based on our music, but it is mostly based on what we listen to, and that’s how it is,” the Bulls player added.

Ja Morant has found himself in hot water following his recent gun controversy. Following that, the guard was suspended indefinitely by the Memphis Grizzlies. However, a recent report has sparked concern among fans that their star may now play again this season. According to NBA Insider Mark J. Spears, the Grizzlies star could sit out for the rest of the season. During Brian Windhorst’s “The Hoop Collective” podcast, he gave his perspective on the situation and expressed faith that the young gun will figure everything out.

“I think there’s a lot going on,” Spears said. “My prayers to him, that he figures it out. There’s things I’m hearing that I’d rather probably not say on this podcast. I hope he’s taking care of himself. I’m not really worried about the basketball part for him right now, I’m worried about the human part,” he added.

“When he does come back, he’s healthy mentally and physically. My guess now is, not that you’d bet on this, that he doesn’t play the rest of the season as he takes care of himself,” he concluded.

Later, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Monday that Ja Morant entered a counseling program in Florida. He further said that there is no timetable for his return.

This could spell disaster for the Memphis Grizzlies, who have been impressive all season. They sit second in the Western Conference standings and might be a potential lock for the playoffs. However, without their star player, their chances of winning the championship become extremely slim. It’ll be interesting to see what the future has in store for Morant and the Grizzlies.
