“Anything that you do…they’re gonna attack you” Patrick Beverley gave real advice to Russell Westbrook after media built fake narratives
Russell Westbrook and Patrick Beverley
During the LA Lakers’ preseason game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Russell Westbrook avoided a team huddle called for by Patrick Beverley. He was chastised for failing to demonstrate a desire to bond with his teammates. Westbrook, on the other hand, told reporters that he was speaking with the coaches about missing a defensive coverage. When asked about it on his podcast, “The Pat Bev Pod,” Beverley said he thought Westbrook was in a huddle and hinted that he didn’t realize it had turned out to be a big deal.
Russell Westbrook is a multiple-time All-Star, former MVP, and one of the NBA’s top 50 players. To say his time with the Lakers has indeed been difficult is an understatement. He has struggled to fit in in Los Angeles, shooting poorly and constantly committing turnovers over while orchestrating the offence. After a nightmare season, the Lakers put Westbrook up for trade, and it was widely assumed he would not be returning.
Patrick Beverley on Russell Westbrook not being a part of the huddle
“When I was in the huddle, I felt like Russ was in there with me,” said Beverley. “He was talking to the refs, and he was talking to the coaches also. … After the game, everybody was like, ‘Why did he do you like that?’ I’m like damn, ‘What happened? ‘“Patrick Beverley told Russell Westbrook after learning about the critics’ perspectives on the situation “Hey Russ, anything you do bro they’re gonna attack you, so damn, I’m sorry you gotta go through that.”
Since last season, Westbrook has been the target of constant criticism. He struggled in his first season with the Los Angeles Lakers. He averaged 18.0 points, 7.0 assists, and 7.0 rebounds per game while shooting 44% from the field. Many people blamed him for the Lakers’ failure to make the playoffs. Several Lakers fans demanded that he be traded this summer. However, GM Rob Pelinka and the company are interested in seeing if Westbrook can make a comeback under new coach Darvin Ham.
