Patrick Beverley opens up on the Lakers problems after becoming a free agent
After getting traded by the Lakers, Patrick Beverley opens up about the problems in the organization.

Patrick Beverly
Patrick Beverley was part of a Lakers squad that was one of the most disappointing in recent times. Since winning the championship in the NBA bubble in 2020 things have been rough in LA. Patrick Beverley was recently traded away from the Lakers and has ended up as a free agent after getting waived by the Orlando Magic. Beverley took to his podcast to talk about the Laker’s situation. “It wasn’t basketball. It was other s***. But other s*** that you really can’t like a pin or point out. You know, comes and goes. You know, a little bit here, a little bit there“, said Beverley while talking about the problem in Los Angeles.
However, probably the most expected yet anticipated trade of this year’s deadline was Russell Westbrook. The Lakers traded Russ to the Jazz in return for D’Angelo Russell in a three-way deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Russell Westbrook did not have a particularly fruitful time in LA as his numbers declined and the fanbase turned on him. However, Beverley built a healthy relationship with Russ during their time at the Lakers. “That’s my dawg, lifetime dawg”, said Beverley on his podcast while talking about Russ.
Patrick Beverley spoke about Westbrook’s work ethic and praised him for being the first person at training every day. “I didn’t know that he knew the game of basketball the way he does“, said Beverley while complimenting Westbrook’s basketball IQ. Westbrook and Beverley famously never got along as opponents but sharing a locker room has given Beverley’s perspective on their relationship.
Russell Westbrook and Patrick Beverley have come a long way since beefing in 2013

April 2013 was when the first spark in the Westbrook – Beverley beef was lit. Patrick Beverley shoved Westbrook with a hard foul causing him to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. This would be the first stretch of games Westbrook had missed since becoming a starter for the OKC Thunder. Russ had always felt that foul was unnecessary and Beverley looked at it as part of the game.
Westbrook and Beverley have taken jabs at each other in the media for years since then. Westbrook said, “He tricks y’all man, he running around doing nothing,” while talking about Beverley’s game. Beverley however has made numerous comments about Russ in the media, he recently brought up this particular one before getting traded to the Lakers himself. Beverley called Westbrook the ‘Real Magician’ during his time with the Lakers in 2021/2022.
However, it has been 10 years since this beef started and Beverley himself has said that it is over. Now it is all love between the two and in hindsight, it looks like all they needed was each other’s perspective. Two alpha dogs like Russ and Beverley working towards the same goal must have helped sort out their differences. Although Russ and Bev are both off the Lakers now and who knows, maybe being opponents could reignite this beef.
