Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are the hottest topics of discussion since winning back-to-back Super Bowls. Mahomes won his third Super Bowl MVP award with tonight’s win. That win makes him the fastest to win his third Finals MVP. Faster than some of the greatest athletes to ever do it such as Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and LeBron James. This truly pushes him to the greatest athlete’s conversation.

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs entered this year’s playoffs as the underdog team. They had to overcome some heavyweight competitors such as tonight’s San Fransisco 49ers. A team laden with Pro Bowl talent was no match at the end for the brilliance of Mahomes. Winning his third Super Bowl MVP against some of the most vaunted defenses in the NFL in back-to-back seasons is noteworthy. And by doing it in his 7th season in the league, he has passed those basketball legends.

Magic Johnson won his third Finals MVP in his 8th season. Jordan won it in his 9th. and LeBron James took 13 seasons to win his 3rd. So comparing with these three, Mahomes has done it in record time. What makes the feat even more audacious is that Mahomes did with despite having at least 22 players playing for the same award.

Add to that, success in American football requires the best efforts of at least 53 players, staff, and trainers. Basketball players can single-handedly dominate every game. So for Mahomes to come out on top

Patrick Mahomes and a legacy-building career

Jordan, Johnson, and James in contrast took some time to get into a winning habit. Jordan had to wait for 6 seasons before his team was capable of fighting for a championship. Even though basketball players can influence the outcome of a game on their own, they do need at least another superstar to help them get to a championship. The same goes for Johnson and James.

Patrick Mahomes came into the league as the 10th pick of the 2017 NFL Draft and was the backup quarterback in his first season. Mahomes was drafted by a team that was already a playoff regular. They had been acquiring all their important pieces prior to drafting Mahomes. All those pieces and the time spent together have given Mahomes an advantage in achieving this success.

But this proves that without him, the Chiefs would not be winning these championships. Mahomes winning his third Super Bowl MVP before those greats is an incredible feat in itself.
