“He’s not gonna grow” Paul George and Tyronn Lue reveal the ULTIMATE plan they used to shut down Patrick Beverly during Lakers-Clippers
Patrick Beverly and Paul George
Any game between Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers is not just a game between two teams. It’s almost a war between two rivals in the same town trying to win the heart of the city. Since Tyronn Lue joined the Clippers as the head coach, Paul George and the Clippers have a 9-0 record against the Lakers. Lakers and Clippers faced each other on Wednesday, which resulted in the Lakers’ 4th consecutive loss of the season and 9th overall.
Beverly is a known ‘paste’ on the defensive end who plays with his heart out against the best players in the league. He is also known for getting under players’ skin and throwing them out of their comfort zone. It was quite obvious that Beverly was assigned to defend Paul George throughout the game. However, things did not go entirely to Beverly’s plan. Clippers’ coach Tyronn Lue and Paul George revealed the plan they used to shut the former Clipper Beverly down.
Taking a jab at Beverly Paul George said “we always had this saying of ‘he is not gonna grow'”, which referred to Beverly’s height and not his character. According to the plan as Beverly tried to get physical with George, coach Ty Lue asked George to just catch and shoot the ball over Pat. The plan was definitely a success as George shot a few of the jumpers over the defender. As Ty Lue remarked, “Pat is a feisty defender. He wants you to put the ball down so he can poke at it. Try to steal it and strip it.” About the plan, he said, “That kind of changed our night, kind of changed PG’s night offensively.”
George and Beverly were teammates in the Clippers before Beverly was traded to Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2021-22 season. Beverly for his career has been to playoffs every single year and has never missed to get across. However, looking at the Lakers’ downfall this season it is hard to predict if the Lakers would even qualify for the Play-in tournament.
Paul George, Clippers miss on injured Kawhi Leonard
Los Angeles Clippers came into the season being one of the favorites to win it all. But the Kawhi Leonard injury has left their championship hopes in jeopardy. As there is no timeline for when Leonard will be back from injury, Paul George has been in charge of the offense so far this season. To George’s credit, the Clippers have been performing well, perhaps more than they are expected to. Apart from George, who is averaging 25.4 ppg, credit also goes to coach Tyronn Lue, who is also one of the best coaches in the league.
Clippers coach Tyronn Lue recently gave an update about Kawhi Leonard that the star is out indefinitely going into the season. According to Lue, the team is being cautious with Leonard as he is recovering from knee surgery which kept him out of the lineup for a year. “He’s progressing and he’s getting better, so that’s the most important thing… There’s really not a timeframe of when he’s going to be back,” Lue said.
Although it is hard to say how far the Clippers can go into this season, counting them out as the contenders would be a mistake. If Kawhi Leonard came to make it to the team even in the mid-season the Clippers still have hope. However, there is no clarity on Leonard’s injury and return.
