“Not the superstar kids would look upto” Pelicans star Devonte Graham arrested after being charged with DWI
Devonte Graham
Devonte Graham, a point guard for the New Orleans Pelicans, was taken into custody by the State Highway Patrol on Thursday in Raleigh, North Carolina, and charged with DWI. The 27-year-old NBA player was detained by a state trooper at roughly three in the morning, and according to Wake County jail records, Graham is not currently held there. Regarding Graham’s arrest, neither the Pelicans nor the NBA have released statements.
He claimed the Pelicans as his workplace, according to police records from Wake County, and it appears that he has already been let go from custody. At least for the time being, neither Graham nor the Pelicans have commented publicly on the arrest. Graham spent three years with the Charlotte Hornets before joining the Pelicans for his first season. He spent four years playing collegiate basketball for the Kansas Jayhawks before being selected by the Hornets.
Is this the beginning of a downfall for Devonte Graham?
After temporarily battling with LaMelo Ball in Charlotte, Devonte Graham took Lonzo Ball’s spot in New Orleans. The Pelicans do not doubt his potential to have a bounce back year despite his having a bad season, registering his lowest point totals and worst shooting stats since his rookie season. Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson were placed near Graham, who was brought in to spread the floor as a shooter. The newly signed free agent was overworked as the starter in the first half of the season since both stars missed games. Graham then fought with a hip issue for the past three months, which reduced his output.
After spending his first three seasons with the Charlotte Hornets, Devonte Graham has just finished his debut season with the New Orleans Pelicans. The former Kansas City standout was part of a three-team deal with the Pelicans last summer that also included the Memphis Grizzlies and Charlotte Hornets. During the 2021–22 season, he made 76 appearances and had averages of 11.9 points, 4.2 assists, and 2.3 rebounds. Graham has a four-year, $47.3 million contract that begins this year. Prior to spending one year in prep at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire, Graham attended Broughton High School in Raleigh. Graham played for the Jayhawks for four years after graduating there.
The news was released shortly after Pelicans centre Jaxson Hayes was hospitalised with minor injuries after getting into a violent brawl with police and was later arrested. When Hayes claimed that his neck had been hit with force, causing him to have breathing problems, the Los Angeles Police Department opened an inquiry into the event. Later, graphic video of the arrest was posted online, showing the cops calling for help as they tried to put the man’s hands behind his back.
With a 61-footer that helped the Pelicans defeat the Oklahoma City Thunder in December, the former Kansas Jayhawks player broke Mahmoud Abdul- Rauf’s record for the longest buzzer-beating game-winning jumper in NBA history. The organisation can get a lot of value for their investment in Devonte Graham, and there is no question that he could have improved his stats the next year. The front office just needs to determine if it will remain with the Pelicans with this following incident.
