They finished as the seventh seed in the Western Conference and barely made the playoffs this season after a hard-fought win in the Play-in tournament against the Minnesota Timberwolves. They dealt with injuries and chemistry issues throughout the season but managed to retool their roster just enough before the trade deadline to be considered a threat in the playoffs.
Many Lakers fans were hoping that the team would make a splash this summer and go after some of the biggest names on the market. Among those touted as targets were Damian Lillard, Kyle Lowry, and DeMar DeRozan. However, a recent report by Evan Massey has dashed those hopes and left many fans underwhelmed.
According to Massey, the Lakers have their eyes on Draymond Green as their “dream offseason target”. Green is a three-time champion and a former Defensive Player of the Year with the Golden State Warriors. Green is also one of LeBron James’ closest friends and biggest fans in the league. He has openly praised James and hinted at his desire to play with him someday. He has a player option for the 2023-24 season, which he could decline to hit the open market next summer. If he opts in, he’ll become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2023-24 season.
The Warriors are unlikely to trade him unless they get a huge offer that they can’t refuse. The Lakers don’t have many assets to offer in a trade, as they have already traded away most of their draft picks and young players in previous deals.
