Kenyon Martin Sr. shared his views on ESPN’s recent NBA rankings in light of recent events. Martin blasted the NBA rankings for placing rookie players like Victor Wembanyama ahead of Russell Westbrook in the league. According to the rankings, Westbrook was placed at the 94th position whereas Wembanyama was placed at 47.

Martin ranted over the Gils Arena Podcast about his disapproval of the rankings. He mentions that placing a player like Russell Westbrook who was also awarded the Most Valuable Player award in the 2016-17 NBA season in the 94th position is not justified and is in no way comparable to rookie players such as Victor Wembanyama.

Westbrook’s career did take a hit with his move to the Los Angeles Lakers in the year 2021. The MVP wasn’t able to adjust to the dynamics of the team and had trouble playing alongside stars like LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Westbrook’s trade to the Lakers had fans intrigued about the star-studded trio it formed on the roster, but eventually, that took a hit in combination with a decline in his athleticism.

With rookie players being given the upper hand in the annual rankings, the MVP’s fame is in decline. but Kenyon Martin Sr. backed the star with facts on the Gils Arena podcast. The ESPN annual rankings always end up stirring discussions and a lot of players like Kyrie Irving and Kobe Bryant have shared their disapproval with this in open media.
