American rapper Cam’ron, also known as Cameron Ezike Giles, appeared on the “It Is What It Is” podcast to recount an encounter he had during and after the basketball game at the Crypto.com Arena. The game, which saw the Brooklyn Nets convincingly win 130-112 against the Los Angeles Lakers, provided the backdrop for Cam’ron’s intriguing story.
Hailing from the East Harlem neighborhood of Upper Manhattan, New York City, Cam’ron, a devoted Nets fan, was spotted courtside during Friday’s game. It was during this game that he observed Brooklyn Nets player Ben Simmons, who was nursing an injury, seated on the bench. Expressing his shock, he said:
I forgot Ben Simmons plays basketball. I was bugging.
As the game concluded, Cam’ron recounted the happenings while he and other VIPs descended through the VIP entrance. It was during this moment that he crossed paths with Ben Simmons. As the two were still staring at each other, he narrated what was going through his mind, saying:
Before you get that [footage], loose chairs gonna be flying, I'ma go straight for your knees, all type of shit.
Frequent guest on the show, OJ Simpson when asked what he thought on the story shared by Cam’ron, said:
I have had to zip up my n**** suit once in a while and it don’t matter how big the guy is.
While stressing how he’d come against a person with the height advantage over him, he said:
I'm from the danger zone. You gotta Google that s**t
Simmons was recently diagnosed with a nerve impingement in his back. The player has faced a challenging stretch with injuries, and is set to be out indefinitely.
Ben Simmons speaks up about “frustrating” injury saga
Simmons hasn’t played a game of basketball since Nov. 6 due to a nerve impingement in his back. The Brooklyn Nets announced on Wednesday that he would miss at least two more weeks because of the ailment. He had earlier missed the Nets’ first three games of the 2023-24 season due to a hip contusion.
Speaking up on Friday, he told reporters:
It's probably one of the most frustrating points in my career just because I wanna be out there and help my team win and compete. But at the end of the day, it's one of those things that's a part of sports.
Through six games this season, Ben Simmons is averaging 6.5 points, 10.8 rebounds and 6.7 assists. He hasn’t played more than 57 games in a season since the 2018-19 campaign when he was with the Philadelphia 76ers. His injury profile includes a foot injury that made him miss his entire rookie season and the back injury he sustained during the entire 2021-2022 season.
