REPORT: Russell Westbrook potential asset in three-team swap for Donovan Mitchell
Donovan Mitchell and Russell Westbrook
With the Lakers making their intentions clear that they are not looking to keep Russell Westbrook hoping to get him out before the season starts. The team is out looking for potential traders but with the performance that Westbrook has been showing, teams do not seem too interested in him alone and want some assets along with the former all-star attached. The Lakers now have themselves in a bind, as still in a pseudo-re-build they would want to keep their trade assets, mainly the 2027 and 2029 first-round draft picks with them. However if enticed, they might just put it all on the line.
With numerous big trade rumors making the rounds ever since the off-season began with Pat Beverley coming to the Lakers and the shared history between him and Westbrook. Brodie will most likely be glad to be on his way out too. On the other side, the budding talks of the Knicks and Donovan Mitchell might finally be coming to the light of day as a report of a three-team trade between Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks is in the works.

The Three-Team Deal
Reported by Marc Stein, the reporter discussed the trade saying, “If the Knicks manage to win the trade race for Utah’s Donovan Mitchell, or even if another team unexpectedly beats them to Mitchell, league sources say there’s a decent chance that the Lakers will be involved in the deal. The two future first-round picks that the Lakers possess in 2027 and 2029 are the kind of top-shelf draft picks that Jazz CEO Danny Ainge is believed to covet. Russell Westbrook’s $47 million expiring contract and those picks could be the Lakers’ entree to a potential three-team swap … depending on the players that would land in Los Angeles.”
He further continued, “The Lakers, I’m told, continue to hold firm on their position that they will agree to surrender both of their future firsts in the same deal only if the trade makes them a certified contender. Does a three-teamer that routes, say, Utah’s Bojan Bogdanović and New York’s Evan Fournier to the Lakers rise to that level?
With the deal, the Laker roster would include Bojan Bogdanović and Evan Fournier. While many claim, this will be a good team for a playoff run. If the Lakers are in sights for a championship, they will need a better team with more depth and the only way possible might be letting go of the prized draft picks.
