“It’s good to wipe the egg off your face” Rob Parker rips Kyrie Irving apart for playing trade-card with Nets
Kyrie Irving has been tearing through the headlines of NBA news lately with all the trade rumors surrounding his name. He did not particularly have a healthy season with the Brooklyn Nets after opting out of the playing with his team due to what he thought was the state making him go out of his will to get vaccinated. This had a terrible impact of the Nets roster and eventually broke apart the super team he himself had created.
James Harden made the decision to leave for a team that had more eagerness to compete for the title. This left the team in shambles while Kevin Durant was still injured and their trusted point guard was only available for road games until the playoffs. During the first round, Irving struggled to produce and help them win which resulted in a sweep.
Kyrie Irving opts in for his one-year player contract
Kyrie Irving was initially looking forward to sign a massive four-year extension with the Nets. The organization was very hesitant to fulfil his requests solely because of his reliability to show up to games. Shams Charania broke the news on Twitter saying that the former All-Star agreed to sign the one-year player option worth approximately $36 million.
He also highlights what the point guard said in a threat, “Normal people keep the world going, but those who dare to be different lead us into tomorrow. I’ve made my decision to opt in. See in the fall.” It maybe that Kyrie realizes that he has needed to fulfil his promise to KD and the franchise that he made two years ago.
Rob Parker reacts to Kyrie Irving choosing his “only option”
Prior the Kyrie Irving finalizing the one-year deal, there were several teams that were rumored to have shown interest in acquiring. The Los Angeles Lakers was the top team that made an effort to sign him. They offered Brooklyn a sign-and-trade package involving Russell Westbrook, but the Nets shown no interest. If the former champ chose to sign with the Lakers, he would have had to settle for $6 million for the year.
Rob Parker reacted to the signing saying, “Like he had that many options. This is the only thing that could’ve happened. It’s good to wipe the egg off your face and act like this is what you’ve decided. You had no choice! Nobody else was gonna catch him. Nobody else was gonna do anything.” Kyrie would have had to forfeit a large sum of money if he opted out and move away from his home town as well as his family.
