Due to a single upload, Rudy Gobert and the Minnesota Timberwolves have become the target of negative social media comments. A picture of Gobert holding up a huge thank-you card that appeared innocent soon went viral on the internet for all the wrong reasons. The card was given to Gobert by his coworkers at the Target Centre Arena in Minnesota shortly after he gave them each a $50 Christmas gift.

The French sensation gave each arena usher and employee a signed card with $50 on December 22. The 31-year-old French star seemed intent on making his presence felt by the employees of the home arena as well. Karl-Anthony Towns, who lost eight relatives to the virus, didn’t have his feelings taken into account, though, because someone wrote the offensive phrase “Covid Schmovid” on Rudy’s card.

Karl-Anthony Towns, the star player for the Minnesota Timberwolves, lost his mother Jacqueline Towns to COVID-19 after a long bout of illness. Towns, who is only 28 years old, suffered the loss of Jackie and seven other relatives to COVID-19 since the pandemic began. In January 2021, he himself suffered from the virus.

The news is worsened by the fact that Karl Anthony-towns lost multiple relatives to Covid during the pandemic. The Timberwolves haven’t made a statement about the situation yet. However, the franchise should be doing the right thing by looking into the matter and punishing the offender.

Fans react to Rudy Gobert’s thank-you card

KAT’s mother sadly passed away in April 2020. Even though he recovered eventually, he himself became infected with the virus in early 2021, while seven of his relatives passed away. This “Covid Schmovid” remark might enrage KAT for obvious reasons. Thus, the Wolves’ organization should prioritize taking the required actions and penalizing the person who did it.

Fans are very angry and sad about the message. People are reacting and asking to punish the person who did it. One of the reactions says that “Covid Shmovid should genuinely be fired”. Many reactions are supporting KAT but some are offensive as well.

One of the reactions points out that Karl-Anthony Towns intentionally touched every camera and mic. After some time, it was disclosed that he was COVID-19 positive as well. For more reactions, scroll below:

After testing positive in March 2020, leading to the league’s decision to suspend the season, Gobert assumed the role of the NBA’s spokesperson for Covid. Later, Gobert—who was then with the Utah Jazz. promised to donate $AUD800,000 to support the people affected by the NBA’s closure due to the coronavirus outbreak. Three groups received the money, with $300,000 going to part-time workers at the Jazz Arena.
