The Los Angeles Clippers and the Phoenix Suns faced off in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series on Tuesday night. The Suns, who lost Game 1 at home, were looking to bounce back and even the series. The Clippers, who stole Game 1 on the road behind Kawhi Leonard and Russell Westbrook, were looking to put the Suns in a 0-2 hole.
The game featured a heated showdown between two former teammates and MVPs: Westbrook and Kevin Durant. The two stars have a long history of animosity and competition, dating back to their days with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Westbrook and Durant kept their emotions in check during Game 1 but finally came to blows on Tuesday night during Game 2.
During the game, Westbrook and Durant had another intense confrontation early in the third quarter. Durant, who had been struggling with his shot, tried to take a mid-range jumper to score over Westbrook. But the Clippers guard, who is known for his tenacity and athleticism, rose up and blocked Durant’s shot with authority.
The play sparked a reaction from both players and their respective benches. Durant tossed his towel in frustration, while Westbrook smirked and celebrated with his teammates.
The block was one of the highlights of Westbrook’s stellar performance in Game 2. The Clippers guard finished with 28 points, five rebounds, five assists, and two blocks, shooting 9-of-16 from the field and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. He was aggressive and efficient, leading his team with his energy and playmaking.
Devin Booker leads Suns to win over Russell Westbrook and the Clippers in Game 2
Westbrook’s block on Durant was not enough for the Clippers, who fell behind in the second half and lost 123-109 to the Suns. The Suns outscored the Clippers 64-51 after halftime, shooting 58.8 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from three-point range.
Devin Booker was the star of the night for the Suns, scoring 38 points on 14-of-22 shooting, including 4-of-7 from deep. He also added one rebound and nine assists. He was unstoppable on offense, scoring from all angles and carrying his team. Kevin Durant had a better night than in Game 1, scoring 25 points on 10-of-19 shooting.
The Clippers also did not get much production from their bench, as only Norman Powell (12 points) and Terance Mann (10 points) scored more than five points for the team. The Clippers shot only 43.8 percent from the field and 36.7 percent from the three-point range, as they failed to match the Suns’ firepower on offense.
The Suns tied the series at 1-1 with their win over the Clippers in Game 2. They will look to take the lead on the road in Games 3 and 4, while the Clippers will try to regroup and defend their home court. The series will resume on Thursday night at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
