“Get Lost” Russell Westbrook fires agent who drops ‘false narrative’ of desire to leave Lakers
Russell Westbrook and Thad Foucher
Russell Westbrook of the Los Angeles Lakers and his longtime agent Thad Foucher of Wasserman have parted ways, Foucher revealed to ESPN on Friday night. It’s still unclear where Russell Westbrook will play after this offseason is through. The Los Angeles Lakers point guard, though, isn’t just waiting around for things to happen. Westbrook wants to be traded by the Lakers and if it wasn’t already evident, his former agent Foucher’s comments to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN explaining why he is no longer Westbrook’s agent has made it quite clear.
With regard to whether the former MVP should wish to stay with the Lakers for the final season of his $47 million deal, Foucher, one of the league’s well-known player agents, highlighted “irreconcilable issues” and claimed that there was no longer full agreement with Westbrook.
Foucher argued that Westbrook’s best course of action is to remain with the Lakers, embrace the place in the squad, and accept the openly expressed support of Darvin Ham.
What is Russell Westbrook’s plan after firing his longtime agent?
Russell Westbrook, who is entering his second season wearing the purple and gold, may be seeking for redemption after having his worst campaign to date. Westbrook averaged , 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.1 assists on 44.4 percent shooting this season. Despite shooting a terrible 29.8 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the charity stripe, he was mostly blamed for the Lakers’ failures. On social media, Brodie was subjected to endless criticism and heckles for his flaws. The Lakers front office, though, continues to retain faith in the nine-time All-Abilities Star as they work to get him back.
Westbrook’s future with the Lakers is in doubt as he approaches the last year of a maximum contract. After a disappointing first season with the Lakers a year ago, Westbrook has been the focus of considerable trade speculation. Since Westbrook departed UCLA as a sophomore in 2008 and was selected by the Seattle Supersonics, who later changed their name to the Oklahoma City Thunder, as the No. 4 overall pick in the draft, Foucher has served as his agent. Him and LeBron James were largely believed to be the team’s perfect mix after Westbrook decided to join the Lakers. However, things didn’t go as planned due to the team’s 33-49 record and play-in elimination making the hype disappear.
Foucher mentioned in a statement that him and Westbrook are parting ways. He stated: “My belief is that this type of transaction only serves to diminish Russell’s value and his best option is to stay with the Lakers, embrace the starting role and support that Darvin Ham publicly offered”. He also added: “Unfortunately, irreconcilable differences exist as to his best pathway forward and we are no longer working together. I wish Russell and his family the very best.”
Seeing the relationship between Russell Westbrook and Thad Foucher and realising that Foucher wanted Westbrook to continue at Los Angeles while the point guard wanted the Lakers to move him would not be unreasonable. If Westbrook’s agent of 14 years, who has probably heard what other teams would offer him in terms of role and future prospects, says that he believes the best option for Westbrook is to stay with the Lakers, and they are splitting up because they disagree, then it is pretty obvious that Westbrook is trying to force his way out the Lakers organization.
