WATCH: Russell Westbrook morphs into OKC Brodie with a thunderous slam over Kings defenders
Russell Westbrook
Russell Westbrook is usually a very hyper-athletic individual who produces highlights on a nightly basis. Lately, we have been witnessing a watered-down version of the Brodie we once knew. To many, this has been a reason to criticize him but to others, they are aware that being a former MVP does not always mean they will lead a team forever.
This has been Russell Westbrook’s biggest reason why he’s been half the version of the OKC monster. The Los Angeles Lakers have relied heavily on his expertise but due to a lack of chemistry, the concoction that was made eventually split. The Lakers’ big three are all used to being the leader, it was obvious someone had to back down for them to actually function like a team.
Head Coach Darvin Ham chose to utilize Russ in the situation, simmering him down into the Sixth Man’s position. For the most part, Mr. Triple-Double has been great coming off the bench. He’s definitely a very reliable scorer in this situation. This has given LA an extra boost for when their starters are refueling.
During the game against the Sacramento Kings, vintage Russ came into action. He pulled his famous dribble down and cut through the lane slam dunks, just like the ones he would run back at OKC. This had the entire crowd cheering for him as it was a very exciting moment for his stans. The Lakers took home another victory as well.
Russell Westbrook’s chaotic off-season with the Lakers
Russell Westbrook almost called it quits on the Lakers during the off-season after a terrible run with them during his first season. He called out his teammates for not allowing him to play or be himself. Eventually, the team settled their differences but their on-court issues were still the point of concern.
Once Darvin Ham entered the scene, he planned of making Russ either the primary source of defense or a sixth man. The former MVP suited the Sixth Man position better and is currently averaging 14.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 7.9 assists per game on 28.1 mpg. This is a fairly decent level of productivity from Russ but the more he provides, the higher the team benefits.
