“They were booing this man two weeks ago lol” Russell Westbrook receives MVP chants once again, fans troll his effort in Lakers downfall

Russell Westbrook

Russell Westbrook, the point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, has changed substantially since coming off the bench. Westbrook was regarded as a huge burden for the Lakers just a few weeks ago as he struggled to fit for the previous season and even at the start of the current one. But alongside impressive performances, he is now receiving MVP chants yet again.

Russell Westbrook has experienced a remarkable turnaround in the early weeks of this season that has some fans scratching their heads. Although the Utah Jazz ended the Lakers’ modest two-game winning streak last Friday, and the team lost again to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday, Westbrook had two standout games. The former MVP boosted the Lakers in scoring and served as a driving force in both Los Angeles’ offence and defense. For his efforts, he received MVP chants at the free-throw line in both the games.

Russ has done a great job of making things right since head coach Darvin Ham decided to start him off the bench. Westbrook was a tremendous sub in yesterday night’s game against the Cavaliers. As he had double-digit scoring and other outstanding stat lines before halftime. The multiple-time All-NBA and All-Star point guard received MVP chants from the Lakers crowd in the final minutes of the first half wherein the former MVP received this distinction for the second game in a row.

Russell Westbrook and his recent two stellar performances for the Lakers

When Russell Westbrook came off the bench to face the Utah Jazz, he not only provided Los Angeles some rhythm and intensity, but he was also quite effective, especially from outside the arc. He finished with 28 points, three rebounds, two steals, and six assists in just 29 minutes on 9 of 14 shooting, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc and 7-of-7 at the foul line. He also had two steals and two assists. The crowd at Crypto.com Arena chanted “MVP” at one point in the third quarter as Westbrook attempted to make a free throw.

Once more, when Westbrook entered the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Lakers immediately improved. In the first half, he was stockpiling assists as he tried to set up his teammates while being selective about when he went for the basket. Overall, the experiment with Westbrook coming off the bench appears to be working out, at least so far in this. Against the Cavaliers, he had 19 points, 10 assists, three rebounds, and two steals. He also continued to shoot efficiently from outside, making 3-of-5 shots from beyond the arc while getting MVP chants.

Fans react to Russ getting MVP chants

Brodie played well in his first three games off the bench, but against the Jazz and then the Cavaliers, both of which ended in defeat, he really stepped up his performance. In the first half, Westbrook played nearly flawlessly as he attempted to keep the Lakers in the contest in both the games. Of course, Westbrook is the last person anyone anticipated would be keeping this team thriving, but that is precisely what he is doing as he recovers to his best.

Russell Westbrook, meanwhile, has reclaimed his status as one of the league’s top guards, appearing to have risen from the graves. There is always a chance for redemption, and Westbrook deserves all the support the Lakers’ supporters are currently giving him. It’s only fitting to see the fans so supportive of Westbrook now that he is performing well again given how harshly they criticized him when he was struggling.
