Russell Westbrook leads Clippers to victory over former team, Lakers, in revenge game

Darvin Ham and Russell Westbrook
Russell Westbrook had his revenge on Wednesday night as the Los Angeles Clippers defeated his former team, the Los Angeles Lakers, in a dominant performance. Westbrook played a crucial role in setting the tone for the game, blocking Austin Reaves’ shot on the first play and following it up with an alley-oop to Ivica Zubac for a dunk. His energy and pace got the Clippers off to a 15-3 lead within four minutes of the game.
Westbrook made a significant impact in the game despite playing for just 21 minutes, scoring 14 points, grabbing three rebounds, and providing four assists. The Clippers, with his help, had a lead of up to 24 points and won the game. This was the 11th consecutive win against the Lakers and their 36th win in 43 games, demonstrating their superiority.
Speaking about his performance, Westbrook said :
“Just coming out, competing, like I know how to. Every night, the game always tells you what to do, whatever type of energy that’s needed. Whether it’s scoring or doing something different on the floor. But just wanted to make sure I was prepared to go.”
Westbrook was initially asked to accept a bench role for the Lakers after three games, which made him unhappy. However, he played as their Sixth Man for 49 consecutive games, averaging 17.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 7.2 assists on 43.4 percent shooting.
His former coach, Darvin Ham, who is now the head coach of the Lakers, had nothing but praise for Westbrook ahead of the game.
“I expect him to be highly competitive, tenacious, and all of the things that made me a fan and causes me to still be a fan. It’s unfortunate it didn’t work out, but I applaud him, I appreciate him, I respect him for what he tried to do for me in particular as a head coach in terms of the sacrificing and believing in the re-alignment. I thought a ton of more positive moments than negative ones where he came out, competed, and helped us win some games. I wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”

Russell Westbrook’s Lakers Tenure

Westbrook’s Lakers tenure might have been short-lived, but it was a learning experience for the veteran player. Despite being asked to come off the bench, he embraced his role and played his part in helping the Lakers win games.
Speaking about his time with the Lakers, Westbrook said, “Uh, it was an experience. I’m past it now, in a new place, and looking forward.” He might not have been open to discussing his former coach or his Lakers tenure, but his performance on Wednesday night spoke volumes about his determination to succeed.
Westbrook’s move to the Clippers has been a positive one for both the player and the team. He has been an integral part of their success this season, averaging 15.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game. His energy and leadership have helped the Clippers maintain a strong position in the Western Conference standings.
While Westbrook might have moved on from his Lakers experience, it is clear that he has not forgotten the lessons he learned during his time there. His professionalism and dedication to his craft have been on full display this season, and it is clear that he is focused on achieving his goals with his new team.
