It is no secret to anyone that Russell Westbrook did not have one of his best seasons and now the Lakers looking to trade him as early as possible, the future looks bleak for the former MVP. Though it is unfair to Westbrook to discard him completely just based on his recent performance as the point guard was one of the most dominant and athletic players and is very capable of going back to that form.

Former player and analyst Jalen Rose expects the duo to be a great backcourt as he stated, “When you talk to me about the Pistons, it made me think about great backcourts, There was my biological father, Jimmy Walker, and Dave Bing was an All-Star backcourt in the 70s. And then Bad Boys, Joe Dumars and Isiah Thomas was an All-Star backcourt, right? How about Chauncey B-B-Billups and Rip Hamilton? An All-Star backcourt. I think we now have another All-Star backcourt in Jaden and Cade Cunningham.”

Working with Westbrook was a great opportunity for Ivey to pull some knowledge and other tips from one of the greatest and most established players in the league. Ivey has often talked about he modelled his game after Brodie and with the two having similar playing styles with their athleticism and ability to score, playing alongside Westbrook provides the young rookie with help adapting to the league. With the Pistons season beginning on October 14th, it will be a treat to see what Jaden Ivey can do alongside 2021 first overall pick Cade Cunningham.
