“I’m Sorry Stephen A Smith, Curry is the worst player to ever play the game of basketball”: Saturday Night Live brilliantly trolls ESPN’s ‘First Take’

“I’m Sorry Stephen A Smith, Curry is the worst player to ever play the game of basketball”: Saturday Night Live brilliantly trolls ESPN’s ‘First Take’

Saturday Night Live mocks ESPN's First Take

“First Take” on ESPN is a show filled with hotheads, ranging from JJ Reddick and Stephen A Smith to Kendrick Perkins himself. They go live on TV with the sole purpose of proving their point, which they would go to any lengths doing. “Saturday Night Live,” or “SNL,” has done several skits on “First Take” over the years. Their latest edition was hosted by actress Natasha Lyonne. She portrayed Michael Rappaport on the skit while the “SNL” cast members played Smith, Perkins and Molly Querim, in what was a hilarious portrayal of how each debate between these analysts go.

Actors who portrayed “First Take” analysts Stephen A. Smith and Kendrick Perkins, were bang on point as Smith and Perkins very rarely see, eye to eye. The two locked horns in a heated debate about Steph Curry after his Game 3 victory in the Western Conference finals. The Golden State Warriors won 109-100 in Game 3 against the Dallas Mavericks, triggering many to think of how great Curry’s legacy will be when he enters the Finals. The two-time MVP is on the verge of his 6th NBA Finals appearance and could possibly win his fourth title. Many sports shows around the world started to argue whether Curry deserves to enter the top 10 list of all-time players.

“Steph Curry is the worst player ever in Basketball” Stephen A Smith and Kendrick Perkins imitated by ‘Saturday Night Live’

The outrageous skit begins with Molly introducing us to the ‘outspoken’ panelists, who impersonate the voices of the Smith and Perkins wonderfully. When requested to select between Curry and Luka Doncic, Smith, as portrayed on the skit, went off praising the Warriors talisman. He never falls short of phrases for the “3-point God”, as he calls him, and sometimes goes overboard while exaggerating his shooting prowess.

Today, I must declare that I got Steph Curry ’cause he’s the greatest shooter of all time. And he can, and I’ve personally seen him do this, shoot a ball from San Francisco into the first-class seat on an airplane, and six hours later the ball swishes into a basket at Madison Square Garden” Stephen A Smith said, and now it was Kendrick Perkins turn to retaliate with a exaggerations of his own, when criticizing Curry, who he isn’t a big fan of. He often brings up Curry’s lack of Finals MVP trophies as an argument against his greatness. Perkins, as portrayed in the skit, said:

“Stephen A., with all due respect, Steph Curry is the worst player to ever play the game of basketball. I mean, sure, he scored 32 last night, but my man Luka got a 40-piece, and then he pulled out eight biscuits and threw in some extra sauces. Your man Steph is too short. The boy needs a ladder to comb his own hair” something which Perkins would definitely feel, even if he doesn’t say it out loud.

ESPN’s “First Take” couldn’t help but share a hearty laugh as they lauded the efforts of “Saturday Night Live” into putting such an apt representation of their show. However, in contrast to the show and his personality, Kendrick Perkins showered Curry with praise as he considered putting him on the “Mount Rushmore” of NBA , if he wins his 4th Ring and a Finals MVP. Curry has a long way to go before that dream become a reality, but the depiction of the constant banter between Smith and Perkins was absolutely hilarious !
