Scottie Pippen is still under fire for calling Michael Jordan a ‘Horrible Player’ and picking LeBron James over his own former teammate in the GOAT debate.
Pippen recently went viral for his crazy take on Michael Jordan as a teammate calling out his career before his arrival as ‘horrible’. Pippen said: “I’ve seen Michael Jordan play before I came to the Bulls. You guys have seen him play. He was a horrible player. He was horrible to play with. It was all 1-on-1, shooting bad shots.”
Scottie Pippen continued with his statement: “All of a sudden, we become a team, and we start winning. Everybody forgot who he was. He was a player who was really not at the top of his category. It was scoring.” In response to this statement, the Boston legend Brian Scalabrine went on SiriusXM to say: “Scottie Pippens is uh … Like I think there might be something wrong … how could you actually think that and say that? … He (Michael Jordan) had to earn all that kinda stuff.” He was referring to the fact that Jordan had to earn the respect of his peers and the league officials during his first seven years with the Bulls before Scottie’s arrival.
Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan’s relationship have been trending downward ever since the mega-hit Netflix show The Last Dance aired on ESPN, apparently, Scottie had a problem with Mike for his portrayal in the show, he didn’t like the fact that Jordan was overshadowing the team and making the show a self-centered Michael Jordan documentary.
Jordan still haven’t responded to Pippen’s comments and still remains silent on the whole beef making it a one-sided hate battle, though Jordan had reportedly reached out to Pippen about his issue with The Last Dance docu-series.
How GOOD was Scottie Pippen in the Bulls Uniform?
Scottie Pippen was the piece that Jerry Krause added in 1987 to complete the creation of the greatest team of all time, with the Bulls winning 6 championships in the 90s.
The arrival of Scottie in Chicago followed the formation of one the best two-way duos (Jordan & Pippen) the game has ever seen haunting players on defense and playing one of the best team offenses in the peak of physical defense. Pippen’s defensive impact during the 1998 Finals sums up his career as a winner, during the finals against the Utah Jazz Pippen showcased a new type of defense where he picks up two offensive players at the free throw line acting as a free roamer blocking down every Malone and Stockton pic-n-roll game. Note that this is the time when help-side defense was not allowed to be pre-set in place.
Pippen during his time with the Bulls made NBA All-Defensive First Team for ten consecutive seasons, from 1991 to 2000 and was a seven-time NBA All-Star (1990, 1992-1997) and earned All-NBA honors multiple times and was pivotal for the Bulls six championships in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997 and 1998.
As a testament to his greatness, Scottie made both the top 50 and top 75 NBA players of all time list in 1996 and 2022 respectively.
