“This is going to get as ugly as a Hollywood divorce” Shannon Sharpe believes Kyrie Irving’s trade saga is bound to get messy

LeBron James and Brooklyn Nets player Kyrie Irving may team up again as Irving’s contract discussions with the Nets front office have reached a “impasse,” according to sources. The possibility of Kyrie Irving leaving the Brooklyn Nets has fascinated the basketball world in which the Nets are unwilling to extend Irving a maximum contract after a contentious season. Shannon Sharpe stated that he doesn’t see the reunion happening on Fox Sports’ “Skip and Shannon: Undisputed.” But if it happens, he thinks the Los Angeles Lakers will be the front-runners for the title the next year.
Irving played just 29 games during the previous season, his third season with Brooklyn, and missed the majority of the team’s home games as a result of his choice to violate New York City’s COVID-19 vaccination requirement. Furthermore, after moving to Brooklyn, he has only participated in 103 of the 216 regular-season games, or 47.7%.
Shannon Sharpe discusses the Kyrie Irving saga with the Nets
The Nets’ executive management has questioned offering the star player a contract due to Irving’s lack of availability over the past few of seasons. If Irving chooses to leave his contract and becomes a free agent, the LA Lakers and the New York Knicks may do a trial run. Shannon Sharpe commented to Irving’s wishlist of teams he wants to join after this season. He said he does not see any of this occurring since no club is eager to go with important players for Kyrie Irving. He stated: “I’m looking at them and I’m like damn. … What can these teams on his wishlist offer? This thing is gonna get messy. This thing is gonna get like a Hollywood divorce”.
According to Sharpe, Irving is not fully driven by winning championships, at least not to the same magnitude as LeBron James. As the driving forces behind the Cleveland Cavaliers, LeBron and Kyrie were once teammates and they defied all expectations by defeating the Golden State Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals after falling behind 3-1.

They both probably played their greatest basketball of their careers, which helped Cleveland defeat the Warriors and win the title. There were persistent whispers regarding Kyrie Irving’s discontentment with his teammates, particularly “King” James. However, as soon as they were both on the floor together, they began to play winning basketball. In 2015, 2016 and 2017, they made it to three straight NBA Finals. James and Kyrie contributed virtually equally to the Warriors’ comeback victory. In Game 7 of the 2016 Finals, he made one of the greatest shots in league history, giving the Cavaliers their first title.
Since then, he hasn’t been able to get past the second round of the playoffs with either the Brooklyn Nets or the Boston Celtics. For the first time ever during the just concluded playoffs, the 2016 NBA Champion was eliminated in the first round. The duo’s relationship appears to be erratic and if the Lakers are successful in acquiring Irving this summer, it will be fascinating.
