“As bad as Golden State needed KD, he needed them equally as bad” Shannon Sharpe believes Nets losing to Celtics could tarnish Kevin Durant’s legacy
Kevin Durant and Shannon Sharpe
Shannon Sharpe recently took a shot at Kevin Durant and his legacy sitting alongside Skip Bayless at “Undisputed”. He is one of the most honest analysts around the league who don’t really sell out any take to make the headlines. Even this time Shannon Sharpe was critical for Kevin Durant and his performance against the Boston Celtics and backed up everything he said with stats and facts. It’s been more than three years since Kevin Durant left the Golden State Warriors for obvious reasons and also some issues between him and them. He wanted to become a better player and get away from that got carried by Stephen Curry conversation. But things aren’t working that good for him outside as injuries, Kyrie’s vaccination saga, James Harden’s departure, and the play-in tournament already have ruined most of his season this year after Milwaukee Bucks got the last laugh during the last season.
As of now, the Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving-led Brooklyn Nets after winning the play-in tournament are going all in and against of the Jayson Tatum-led Boston Celtics. But the young duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown with Marcus Smart the DPOY in the backcourt is so far been the better match-up. As the Boston Celtics lead the series by 2-0. Both the games were closely contested and head to head but Kevin Durant one of the greatest scorers in league history isn’t just able to break the defensive end of the Celtics. He and his best mate both were struggling down the stretch in Game 2 as they sold a game away with a lead of 15-plus points.
In game 1 Kevin Durant dropped 23 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists while making 9 out of the 24 attempted shots from the field and 1 from the 5 attempted three-pointers. The story continued in Game 2 too as KD got himself 27 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists while going 4 for 17 from the field and 1 for 2 behind the arc. He was good on the line in both the games though. Shannon Sharpe has brought up an interesting take bringing in KD’s time with Golden State Warriors in the conversation as he criticized him for not proving himself out while also appreciating him for his greats.

Shannon Sharpe on Kevin Durant’s Brooklyn Nets losing two games straight against the Boston Celtics
Shannon Sharpe discussing Kevin Durant and his legacy with the after-effects of game 1 and 2 quoted: “It’s been three years since he left Golden State, and he’s won one playoff series. “He has to show he can win outside of Golden State. As bad as they needed Kevin Durant, he needed them equally as bad… But a game doesn’t tarnish a legacy…If you play bad and win all this is forgotten but if you play bad and lose. So if Kevin Durant comes back and wins this series we will be talking about no game 1 and 2… I do not believe Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving can win 4 out of the next 5 games. But Kevin Durant has to prove that outside of Golden State he can do it because right now he hasn’t done it.”
Shannon Sharpe also came up with many such instances where the league really has forgotten about his bad form and shooting slumps to back his words up. He also gave examples of superstars like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Larry Bird, and Magic Johnson regarding how they have turned the narrative around them after losing some games in a series and how can Kevin Durant do the same to prove himself out in front of everyone. The Brooklyn Nets will now be hosting the Jayson Tatum-led Boston Celtics at Barclays Center for Game 3 and everyone around the franchise is hoping for KD to step up and shut all the mouths chirping around him.
