“Whose gonna play defense?” Shannon Sharpe buries all claims of Donovan Mitchell joining the Brooklyn Nets
Donovan Mitchell
NBA offseasons have many unexpected trades and even amusing trade rumors that make fans think over the same. As per recent advancements, Utah Jazz is open to trading their 3-time all-star Donovan Mitchell. The possible trade of Mitchell from the Utah Jazz to the Brooklyn Nets has surfaced, but no specific trade package has been mentioned for the trade to be finalized. Sports analyst Shannon Sharpe explains difficulties in the possible trade and even if the Nets try to overcome those difficulties, the trade is not suitable for them, as per Shannon.
Discussing the possible trade On the Undisputed show, Sharp 1st mentioned the technical difficulties in the trade, as he said, “Obviously you’d have to move Ben Simmons, because you can’t have two guys on rookie contracts on the same team.”
Also pointing out a loophole, if the Nets do trade Simmons for Mitchell, he added, “Him going to Brooklyn Nets, who’s going to play defense? Kyrie’s not playing defense. Donovan Mitchell doesn’t play defense. … Scoring is not the problem with the Brooklyn Nets. They can score. They’ve got two elite scorers.” Ultimately former NFL champion does not see the 25-year-old Jazz Guard landing in Brooklyn.
Shannon Sharp Provides an interesting alternative franchise for Donovan Mitchell.
The Louisville prodigy attracted many franchises when he was made available in the market. New York Knicks expressed strong interest in their native youngster, but nothing has been finalized yet. While discussing the Donovan Mitchell trade, Shannon Sharpe has provided Miami Heat as a possible destination for the talented guard.
Sharpe pegged Mitchell as being better off with wing Jimmy Butler and also emerging big man Bam Adebayo. Even he mentioned that Mitchell and Heat collaboration would be more fruitful than with the Knicks. But if Mitchell is interested in being box office or Hollywood, then he should join the Knicks, claims Sharp.
Insisting on his views, “I think he will be a better fit in Miami. The Knicks, obviously being from New York, he will be box office there. But I think a better fit will be probably him with the Miami Heat with Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. If he wants to try and win the championship, he will be better suited in Miami. If he wants to be box office and try to be Madison Avenue or Hollywood or something, go to the Knicks.”
Miami Heat also struggled offensively, with Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler doing most of the work for the team. Tyler Herro is not a polished star yet and needs a bit of work while Mitchell has been in the league for five seasons and proved to be ever efficient player for Utah Jazz.
He was instrumental in helping Utah to the playoffs each season. And even in playoffs, he played well to win games of his own. The addition of 3-time All-Star Mitchell will certainly increase Miami’s chances of winning their 4th NBA title, after 1 conference Final and 1 NBA Finals appearance in the last 3 seasons.
