“They will be traded from the Nets” Shannon Sharpe explains why Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving have no future in Brooklyn
Kevin Durant has called quits on the Brooklyn Nets after three years trying to get to championship level. The team did see a glimpse of that during the initial part of the 2022-23 season when the Nets ranked top three in the Eastern Conference. But what kept them from starting their point guard became the ultimate reason why they bent the rules for him.
Injuries and COVID-19 took a huge toll on the roster by the time it was New Year. James Harden made a decision to move on from the team a month later and got shipped to the Philadelphia 76ers. The Nets gradually fell through in the rankings and competed in the play-in tournament. The go swept in the first round and that is when all hell broke loose between the players and the organization.
Kevin Durant quits on the Nets and requests to be traded
Kevin Durant signed a four-year contract valid until the 2025-26 season. The contract is worth approximately $198 million, but apparently all that money and trust the team had in him would not mean much. It seems like KD wants to work for his legacy and not the money. After a terrible season and an unreliable Kyrie Irving, he requested the team for a trade.
No team has come forward with a proper deal to acquire the Slim Reaper mainly because of his high market value. He listed the Phoenix Suns and the Miami Heat as his favorite trade destinations but neither team has complied to what the Nets have demanded. Experts believe that a trade will mostly take place later during the season as teams take time to prepare for it.
Shannon Sharpe believe Nets will trade Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving
So far, there have not been viable offers made for the two former NBA champions. But it is highly possible that both players will be wearing a new jersey at some point really soon. Shannon Sharpe also believes the same as he said, “I believe in this situation Skip, Joe Tsai says, ‘ I want my organization back.’”
“Kevin Durant went to them and requested a trade. I believe because Kyrie’s behavior with the organization, I believe they want to get him out of there. In this situation, I believe both players will get traded. I’m as close to a 100% with both players not being on the Nets.”
