“I too have a GOAT case” Shannon Sharpe in awe of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar after discussing his mentality

“I too have a GOAT case” Shannon Sharpe in awe of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar after discussing his mentality

Kareem Abdul Jabbar

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is one of the high-achieving megastars in the NBA but is easily overlooked in GOAT discussions. Abdul-Jabbar is a 19-time All-Star, 15-time All-NBA, six-time MVP, six-time champ, two-time Finals MVP, 1969-70 Rookie of the Year, and a Hall of Famer. Those are just some of his NBA accolades. Still, he is never seriously discussed in GOAT debates. But sports analyst Shannon sharp put Kareem on the GOAT list behind LeBron James. Sadly the list is for “most disrespected players of all time”

The NBA community in general though always has showered love on their superstar center. But analysts, media, and Fans have somewhat different opinions about Kareem. Just like NBA analyst Shannon Sharp puts Kareem after LBJ in discussions. While explaining his views on a recent episode of ‘undisputted’ Sharp said, “Kareem is the greatest high school basketball player. There’s no doubt that he’s the greatest college basketball player, and you can make a case he is the greatest NBA player. He has six MVPs, he has six championships, third most rebounds, most points, 10 NBA Finals.”

He added, “But for whatever reason, he was really surly. … He was a guy that was really easy to dislike. So for me, I got LeBron one, and I got Kareem No. 2, but there’s no question about it.” Sharp added that he needs to go deep into the subject to find out real reasons for Kareem’s hate, but still puts him at number 2.

Over the years NBA has witnessed many great players, winning trophies, and even winning hearts without any trophy by their names. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar did both of those things. He did win 6 titles in his career, while he did win the hearts of basketball fans with his gameplay. In the case of Kareem, many people only know him as the record holder for the most points in league history as it flashes regularly in any searches, but there are other aspects of the game that have defined Kareem’s basketball career and game.

Abdul-Jabbar is one of basketball’s most iconic players His influence in the league is known by most fans, and he’s widely respected by champion players too. It’s almost unimaginable to see an all-time great get disrespected by modern sports analysts. Yes, Kareem wasn’t the flashiest player, but his innovative ‘sky hook’ made a revolution in the game that no one could forget.

He was not only an NBA-level champion, but he did similar things at a very young age, and from his college days. The 7-foot-2 center was an NCAA champion, the Most Outstanding Player in the NCAA Tournament, and the national player of the year three times each. And it likely would have been four for each, but freshmen were ineligible to play on the varsity. He was inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007.

Being part of “Show time Lakers” certainly helped his fame, and fan’s appreciation, but to be fair, he was one of few reasons for the Lakers being show-time. He did most of the work near the rim area so that the Lakers could run their fast break easily at the other end. We will have to wait on Sharp’s analysis and reasoning for putting Kareem second on the list of most disrespected players
