Russell Westbrook has not been happy with the way his situation in the NBA is being handled. The Los Angeles Lakers had a tough time with his signing as the player simply did not fit the role he was hired for. Despite having multiple injuries on the rosters, he still had potential of scratching the surface in the post-season but Russ was not enough.
The former MVP parted ways with his agent Thad Foucher after 14 years due to “irreconcilable differences.” Foucher opened up about it saying, “My belief is that this type of transaction only serves to diminish Russell’s value and his best option is to stay with the Lakers… Unfortunately, irreconcilable differences exist as to his best pathway forward, and we are no longer working together.”
Russell Westbrook put into discussion for three-team trade
The recent news surrounding Russell Westbrook has been that he is firm in his decision of leaving the Lakers. He was offered a one-year extension to play another season giving him $47 million which he agreed to and signed. After averaging one of his lowest statistics of 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.1 assists, it does not seem like he is in his element.
The Brooklyn Nets have been in contact with the Lakers trying to finalize a swap for Kyrie Irving for Russ. The San Antonio Spurs have offered to pitch him for the Lakers offering them assets to help acquire Irving. The former rookie of the year happens to be exactly what LA has been trying to get out of their current point guard besides his unreliability.
Shannon Sharpe reacts to the Lakers agreeing to “make it work”
Recently, players of the purple and gold all got on call and made an agreement to make things work out one last time. LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook were all present on call. Analyst Shannon Sharpe gave his take on the phone call saying, “LeBron is starting to realize, ‘Nets aren’t going to deal us Kyrie for Russ, Russ is not going anywhere.’”
“Nobody is going to take his $47 million… we’re going to be stuck. Let’s make the best to this situation that we have,” he said. It is very apparent that the Nets are demanding a high value package in exchange for Kyrie. Despite the issue, the LA team signed a new head coach Darvin Ham, who seems prepared and confident to work with Russ and the others.
