Kevin Durant along with his partner in-crime Kyrie Irving are dominating the news this offseason as they did for nearly 3 seasons now. In 2019, the NBA world was in shock watching ‘injured’ KD joining hands with Kyrie Irving at the Barclays Center, and after making news for various reasons in the past 3 seasons, they are again making headlines for being on verge of parting ways. The Brooklyn Nets, in particular, have found themselves in one of the most surprising storylines this offseason. First, they had a standoff with Kyrie Irving regarding his contract negotiations. And after that drama, the situation led to rumors of a possible sign-and-trade. After agreeing to opt into his player option for this upcoming season, their franchise player Kevin Durant requested a trade away from the Media Center of the world.

In 3 season period, Brooklyn Nets experienced the highs and lows of the franchise. Even With injured Kevin Durant, the franchise was a heavy favorite to make a deep run in the postseason, while now they are at the opposite end of the people’s perspectives now. But the front office is seeking a historic return in exchange for Kevin Durant to salvage what they can – to which Sports analyst Shannon Sharp differs.

Shannon Sharp argues that Kevin Durant has put Brooklyn Nets in a poor position

2-time Finals MVP is the main reason for the Nets to be on the roller-coaster ride from 2019 till now. He joined the Nets fresh off his championship trophy, but with the injury, that would keep him out for a season. Looking at his caliber, Brooklyn signed him and allowed him to get 1 season recovery period. But after 2 full seasons with the franchise, Durant couldn’t make the huge difference they were looking for. But he still remains a “game-changer” though may not be a winner for them.

And now after KD’s trade request, as one of the league’s top players, Kevin Durant should yield a hefty return in a trade. The 4-time scoring champion is under contract for the next four years – which he will be carrying for the new team also.

In this situation, Shannon Sharp made a huge claim regarding the possible returns for KD. During FS1’s ‘Undisputed,’ Shannon Sharpe stated that the Nets will not receive the return they want because Durant wants out. Sharpe said, “I don’t believe it’s a fixable situation with KD and Brooklyn … They’re gonna get pennies on the dollar for a guy of Kevin Durant’s caliber because Kevin Durant has voiced it and let it be known ‘I want out of here.'”

Shannon Sharpe has a point about the Nets shopping Kevin Durant. His lack of faith in the organization hurts their leverage. However, Durant’s value gives the Nets leverage. Throughout his career, Kevin Durant has proven he can thrive alongside any player in the league. Since he is such a great plug-and-play guy, teams are still going to line up in hopes of acquiring him.

KD has whole-some gameplay, he can dribble effectively, make mid-range, and long-range shots with ease, and even proved useful in defenses. He is truly an intriguing trade chip that the Nets hold at the moment. Another thing Brooklyn has in their favor is that many teams know the actual ‘value’ of a 2-time NBA Champion, but as Shannon said, they will have some “bargaining” advantage over Brooklyn as the player himself expressed a desire to leave the organization.
