NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe is known to make a lot of properly thought-out arguments. His views have been appreciated by sports fans for years. But an argument he made about Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving left NBA fans baffled.

Sharpe was speaking on ESPN’s show, First Take. While talking about contenders in the Western Conference, the Dallas Mavericks topic came up.

Former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins spoke about how the Mavericks and their superstar duo can lead them to glory. To this Sharpe asked Perkins,

To this, Perkins responded that Irving and Doncic are two of the best post-up guards in the league. Irving has a post-up game that can create easy post-production. Sharpe retorted to this by saying;

Kyrie's 6 foot tall, he ain't posting up nobody.....How many times you saw Kyrie down on the block say give me the ball down in the block?

Perkins was left baffled by this statement and he even questioned what type of NBA games Sharpe watched, as he seemed to have no idea about the post-up game Irving and Doncic had.

Stephen A. Smith supported Perkins’ take that Irving does have a post-game, but he does not take it too often. Doncic has a solid post-up game, but the Mavericks’ offensive game has not featured it yet.

Sharpe responded to this by saying that even though they might have a post-up game, they cannot get easy baskets, unlike other post-up specialists in the league. Moreover, Sharpe believes Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic do have the defensive acumen to stop other superstars.

The Dallas Mavericks brought in Kyrie Irving to combine with Luka Doncic to take them to another NBA title. Kendrick Perkins certainly believes so. But Shannon Sharpe is not sold on the idea, primarily due to their non-existent interior game and defense. His idea, that Irving could not post up due to his height disadvantage, did not sit well with fans.
