Kareem Abdul Jabbar
Los Angeles Lakers legends Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Shaquille O’Neal had a wholesome exchange on TNT to put their feud to rest. “You felt that I was shaming you or ignoring you, and that would never be the case. You showed them what you were all about the way you crushed all the centers in the league”, said Kareem. Shaq was constantly compared to Kareem as he was arguably the Lakers’ best center since The Captain. However, Kareem did not like being compared to the big man and ignored him during his time with the Lakers.
“You not speaking to me was the best thing that ever happened in my career because all I wanted to do was impress you sir… I will never have beef with the great Kareem Abdul Jabbar”, said Shaq in response to Kareem. Shaq said that he looks forward to meeting him soon. At the end of the broadcast, he explained that Kareem never talked to him, so he assumed he didn’t like him.
Now that their beef is put to rest, these two legends can meet and reminisce about their days in the league. Even though they played in different eras, Shaq and Kareem were pioneers of their respective eras. Both of them have shattered backboards and made dunking seem unfair. It is only fitting that they have set aside their animosity for mutual love and respect.
Although Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s record is broken, the NBA world will never forget him

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar played in the NBA for 20 years to amass that massive points tally. He, like LeBron James, broke the record while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. When Kareem left the league in 1989, he held the record for most points, blocks, and all-star appearances. To add to these, the seven-footer is a six-time NBA champion and a six-time MVP, which is tied for most MVPs all time.
Kareem has been an advocate for social justice throughout his career. The NBA even named an award after him, called the ‘Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion Award.’ The NBA legend famously refused to take part in the 1968 Olympics following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. Moreover, he has written several books highlighting the history of Black America.
Kareem had an illustrious career, both on and off the court, filled with highlights. In fact, the NBA will always remember him for his legendary signature skyhook, a move that tormented defenders for 20 years. No one has come close to creating a shot as unique as the skyhook. Kareem will forever be remembered as a pioneer of basketball on and off the court, and that is something no one can take away from him.
