NBA great Shaquille O’Neal believes that Los Angeles Lakers star player Patrick Beverley could bring out the best in his teammate Russell Westbrook in the upcoming NBA season. The two rivals have become close pals now, and this is something that has got the eyeballs moving of many. Shaq put forth his view on the recent episode of ‘The Big Shaq’ podcast.
Shaquille O’Neal said, “Game beef really gets a personal beef… They had their problems, they’re both competitors. Now they’re on the same team, and I know Pat Beverley is going to be a little bit more of a voice because LeBron is sort of like me. He’ll say something every now and he won’t really say anything. Pat Beverley gonna say something all the time.” Shaq’s comments make sense, but if Russell is benched, there is a whole different story to be told.
Shaq added, “When I was playing that was Brian Shaw. That was Rick Fox, that was D Fisher. They always had something to say all the time. So, Pat Bev, I think he’s gonna help Russ get back close to the level he was at cuz he’s gonna hold him accountable. When you shoot off the side of the backboard somebody needs to give a look, ‘Hey man what you doing?'” The Lakers fans will just want the team to win the title this year after a disastrous last season. They might not care about the process but the final result. It will be interesting to see how accurate Shaq’s predictions turn out to be.
Patrick Beverley names Russell Westbrook his ‘best friend’ on the roster
On the recently concluded Laker’s media day, Patrick Beverley termed Russell Westbrook his best friend on the team. The two rivals turned friends seemed to have left their past behind. Their bromance pictures have also gone viral in the recent times. Pat said, “I’ve been here I don’t know, three weeks, three weeks in a half, maybe four and I’m just guessing. I don’t know, if I had to pick a best friend out of a team you usually have those it’d be him [Russell Westbrook].”
He added, “And obviously I’m not saying it cause you guys are right here, it’s been the truth. He was at my press conference, we hit the weights together. And I mean, not like team weight stuff we’re in the lab 6, 6:30 in the morning together.” Patrick concluded, “I’m super excited to see how it goes and like any relationship –friendship, with your girl, the homies, whatever, friendships– it’s a battle and in order to get to where we go out and get to like we…man, we have to become great friends so super excited about that.”
