“High time to learn some manners” Shaquille O’Neal condemns Dennis Rodman’s behavior during NBA 75 celebration

Shaquille O'Neal and Dennis Rodman at the NBA75 ceremony

Basketball greats from the past and present were able to reunite at the NBA 75 celebration over All-Star Weekend in Cleveland to reminisce about the good old days and celebrate the game’s continuous development. Dennis Rodman, in the opinion of Shaquille O’Neal, ought to have regarded the event with greater respect. The former player for the Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons made an unexpected visit at Rocket Mortgage Arena, where he reconnected with Michael Jordan and many other individuals. Moreover, he wore a different jacket  afterwards than the commemorative one the NBA gave him. Fans didn’t appreciate his behavior even when it was clarified that he was merely hinting to his collaboration with the Vlone brand.

The Diesel was quite humble throughout the ceremony, thanking everyone who had supported him on his path to the Hall of Fame and frequently expressing emotion. However, Rodman felt compelled to maintain his customary oddity and otherness, and O’Neal believes that Rodman’s actions demonstrated a complete lack of context awareness. O’Neal acknowledged having a problem with that on a recent episode of The Big Podcast with Shaq. The Big Diesel indicated why, if he had been Rodman, he would have taken a different course of action.

One of the finest rebounders in NBA history is Dennis Rodman, thus the nickname “The Worm.” In the end, Dennis Rodman captured five NBA titles. He relentlessly went for loose balls and gave his teams a strong defense. He put in a lot of effort, which resulted to his being selected to the NBA All-Star team twice and leading the league in rebounds for seven seasons. He was twice named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year and spent eight seasons on the NBA All-Defensive Team. Rodman was selected for the NBA’s 75th Anniversary team in 2022 and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011.

Rodman’s gesture at the NBA 75 ceremony which didn’t please Shaq

LeBron James was posing for photos with a select group of people following the NBA 75 celebration. Rodman  entered the picture when nearby, however, he threw the prestigious NBA 75 jacket to the floor before entering. Shaq, the former Bulls forward, did not take well to this. In Shaq’s ‘Big Podcast’ he said: “My mother doesn’t allow that. I represent Dr. Lucille O’Neal. I don’t represent myself. I represent my momma and the other women in my life, I’m going to be silly and do my stuff but when it comes time to be professional, I will always be professional.” Naturally, O’Neal and Rodman have a history of rivalry, so these remarks are not entirely unexpected.

Although some NBA 75 teammates could share Shaq’s sentiments, it would be odd for O’Neal or anybody else to anticipate anything different from Rodman. It’s unclear what exactly sparked this disagreement, but the two huge guys clearly don’t get along. Shaq is a man who lives a disciplined and respectful life. Even if he may have laxed after winning a few championships, he always displays himself in the best light. All O’Neal did was essentially charging Rodman of acting unprofessionally by acting in this manner during a ceremony that was quite formal and had standards to uphold.
