“When he plays freely, he’s a monster” Shaquille O’Neal implies Russell Westbrook was too humble to LeBron James
Shaquille O'Neal and Russell Westbrook
Former Los Angeles Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal in a recent interview stated that LA Lakers star player Russell Westbrook‘s humbleness towards his teammates was one of the reasons why he had a disastrous 2021-22 season. He also stated that humility is something which is Russell’s weakness. Russell Westbrook had one of the worst seasons of his career during his first year with the Lakers team.
Shaquille O’Neal was talking in an interview with Dime Magazine, where he said that, “I think he was just, and I say this respectfully, I just think he was showing too much respect.” He further added, “He was just being too nice. I don’t know the relationship between him and LeBron, but if you put that down on paper and I don’t know nothing about basketball, that’s a hell of a backcourt, Russell Westbrook and LeBron James… That’s how it was me, he was just thinking too much. He’s a guy that, when he plays freely, he’s a monster.”
Russell Westbrook while playing for the Washington Wizards averaged 22.2 points, 11.7 assists and 11.5 rebounds in each game. However, his average dropped when he joined Los Angeles Lakers. The star player finished the season with the figures of 18.5 points, 7.1 assists and 7.4 rebounds. Hence, he was mocked heavily by everyone. If he continues with the Lakers for this season as well, the team management would want him to have fair contribution in the games.
Los Angeles Lakers trying to find a trade which is beneficial for both the teams and Russell Westbrook
The Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly been involved in negotiation talks with the Indiana Pacers, San Antonio Spurs, and a few other NBA teams which are interested in acquiring the nine-time All-star player, Russell Westbrook. The Lakers are reportedly persistently trying not to include their next two trade-eligible first-round picks, from the 2027 and 2029 NBA Draft, in this Westbrook deal. There is a high possibility that the Lakers will keep Westbrook and his $47.1 million contract which expires this season and will only look for options once the trade deadline approaches in the month of February, 2023.
