Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant are the greatest duo to ever play basketball and that’s without a doubt. Many may argue with it trying to bring Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan into the conversation. But deep down everyone knows and even Kobe Bryant agreed that if they stayed together with no differences for a longer time they would have eleven NBA Championships. But nothing can be changed now as it is all gone and done. Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant played together for eight long years before parting ways. In their time together they won three championships straight from 2000-2002 and are still the last team to three-peat in the league even though there are many big threes out now.
They also made it to the 2004 finals but some plays ruined it for them and they lost to the Detroit Pistons. Which resulted in Shaquille O’Neal parting ways with the Los Angeles Lakers and leaving Kobe Bryant behind. There are reports which say the tension which broke the greatest duo apart was chemistry issues between them as Shaquille O’Neal wasn’t that happy playing alongside Kobe Bryant because of him not passing the ball much and both of them also had their own differences. Kobe Bryant though stayed committed with the Los Angeles Lakers for the rest of his career while Shaquille O’Neal shifted boards for quite a time.
If compared Kobe Bryant though had a better career resume than Shaquille O’Neal but it doesn’t matters. As after their career ended they got back together talked it out and ended the beef as real mates. But still, all those moments and future success is a part of regret. Shaquille O’Neal though has many such regrets where he didn’t get rid of mistakes and confusion that list includes his marriages, Kobe and Penny Hardaway.
Shaquille O’Neal on his relationships with Kobe Bryant and Penny Hardaway
Shaquille O’Neal recently appeared on The Pivot Podcast and talked about everything going around him and the league. He also discussed his duo with Kobe Bryant and Penny Hardaway and the regrets he holds as he quoted: “You just realize that just because things you do may make it seem like you’re perfect, you’re not perfect…Big mistake in the Penny relationship, big mistake in the Kobe relationship, horrible mistake in both marriages. Other than that I don’t really dwell on a lot, but those things I really dwell on because one I know better and sometimes when you get, you know and I don’t like to make excuses, but I had a lot going on, I was arrogant and I was dumb and sometimes when you do a lot of stuff, you don’t want to work at stuff.”
Shaquille O’Neal was very emotional talking this all out but at the same time, he knew that it’s alright and he know that mistakes were made and they ruined it all. As of now, Shaq is a businessman chasing the bag, a musician, and also an honest analyst who is known as one of the funniest guys around the league. He is also a Hall of Famer and part of the NBA 75 as he till today is the most dominant force ever seen in the league.
