“He almost got me fired” Shaquille O’Neal reveals SCARY altercation between his father and legendary Coach Phil Jackson
Shaquille O’Neal was a fighter who never allowed anybody to take advantage over him on the court. Only a few instances took place during early parts of his career that showed he too was a human being in full form. But overtime, the big man corrected his flaws and dominated.
Shaq revealed a very risky incident that took place while he played for the Los Angeles Lakers. During a game against the San Antonio Spurs, the Lakers legend was getting bodied with the opposition center. His father, Philip Harrison did not like seeing his son being dominated.
After asking head coach Phil Jackson to repeatedly bench Shaq and getting ignored, the NBA dad took matters into his own hands following the game. The former champion said that his father berated Jackson before security officials reached the scene.
Shaquille O’Neal’s biggest inspiration was his father
Shaquille O’Neil had a tough upbringing growing up without his biological father in the picture. Joseph Toney was a convicted who very actively took part in the drug business. The Hall of Famer often expressed how much he despised his biological father due to his absence through his childhood.
Philip Harrison gained all legal paternity rights and took over the O’Neal household. He was a very strict father according to Shaq. There was an moment when his step-father slapped him in front of the entire basketball gym in high-school because he missed consecutive layups.
But it was Harrison who made Shaquille O’Neal strong at will and even to this day the legend praises the man for bringing him up the right way. Philip would often call Shaq a spoilt brat because of how often he complained about pressure he felt as a young profession athlete.
