LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Golden State Warriors 117-112 in Game 1 of their second-round playoff series. Unlike the Warriors, the Lakers had struggled almost throughout the regular season and only earned a playoff spot via the Play-in tournament. But the team has been performing surprisingly well in the playoffs. They played extremely well against the Grizzlies in their first-round playoff series, beating them 4-2, and now lead the defending champions 1-0.
Despite the win, LeBron James’ shooting numbers, especially from beyond the arc, continued to be a big concern for the Lakers. While he’s leading his team to wins, he has put up abysmal numbers from the three-point range in the playoffs. James has shot 6-42 from three this postseason, shooting a tragic 14.3%. This is a big reason for the team to worry against the Stephen Curry-led Warriors. While some suggest James is playing with an injury, others point to his old age and his unwillingness to drive the ball to the rim and resorting to tough contested shots for his poor form from beyond the arc. Nonetheless, the four-time MVP will need to find a solution to this.
Like from beyond the arc, James is also struggling at the free-throw line. James has shot only 68.8% from the free-throw line, converting 24 out of 35 attempted. James has been much more efficient from mid-range and when driving to the rim, converting 63.4% of his shots.
James will look to improve on these numbers as the Lakers prepare for the second game against the Warriors. Let’s recap Game 1 between the Warriors and the Lakers, where the latter skimmed past the defending champions.
LA Lakers skim past the Golden State Warriors 117-112 as LeBron James puts up tragic stats
The Warriors’ game against the Lakers was nothing short of a rollercoaster. The Lakers led by a point at the half and increased their lead to 14 in the fourth quarter. However, the Warriors erased the deficit with a 14-0 run to level the game at 112-112. A couple of clutch buckets helped the Lakers build a three-point lead in less than 20 seconds left on the clock. Jordan Poole, who was 6-of-10 from beyond the arc until that point, had a chance to level to scores with a long three-pointer. But he missed, and the Lakers held their nerve to finish the job.
LeBron James and Anthony Davis showed up for the Lakers. Davis scored 30 points, provided five assists, and grabbed 23 rebounds, while James scored 22 points, dished four assists, and hauled in 11 rebounds. What went unnoticed was James’ terrible three-point shooting. He made one three-pointer out of the eight attempted, a 12.5% conversion rate. D’Angelo Russell and Dennis Schroder followed with 19 points each.
For the Warriors, Steph Curry, unsurprisingly, led the way. Curry scored 27 points, dished three assists, and grabbed six rebounds. Klay Thompson followed with 25 points, adding four assists and three rebounds. Overall, the Warriors gave a close fight but made some mistakes that cost them the match. It’ll be interesting to see how the team plans on bouncing back from this narrow loss in Game 2. It all goes down tomorrow!
