The Los Angeles Lakers have a long-standing reputation as one of the most successful franchises in the NBA, with 17 championships to their name. However, the behavior of their fan base has come under scrutiny in recent times. Lakers fans have been criticized for their treatment of players, particularly on social media.
This season has been a tough one for Lakers fans, as the team has struggled to make an impact in the playoffs. While it’s disappointing to see such legendary players as LeBron James and Anthony Davis struggle, it’s never an excuse for fans to harass or attack players online. Unfortunately, this is exactly what has been happening, with Lakers fans going after players, including recent addition Malik Beasley.
Malik Beasley, who only joined the team last month, has already spoken out about the negative impact that Lakers fans have had on him and his family.
“It’s my sons bday and I’m trying to enjoy that,” Beasley wrote in a comment that he pinned to his post. “obviously I want to be making shots my self. I’m harder on myself then anybody.. laker nation it’s only a matter of time. I put in toooo much work not too. I promise when the time to turn up comes, it will come.“
“Let’s focus on getting to playoffs,” Beasley continued. “Positively is the only way to move forward from here. Love y’all and just show some respect to me and my family .. including @montanayao”
It’s important to note, however, that the Lakers are not the only team with a toxic fan base. This issue is prevalent across all sports and all teams. With the rise of technology and social media, it’s become easier for fans to harass and attack players online. It’s up to each fan base to take responsibility for their actions and make sure that their behavior is respectful and positive, both on and off the court.

The Celtics and Racial Abuse
The Boston Celtics are one of the most successful franchises in the NBA, tied with the Lakers for the most championships. However, like the Lakers, their fan base has been criticized for their behavior, especially when it comes to racial abuse.
The Celtics have the second-best player in Jaylen Brown, who is a rising star in the league. However, even he has not been immune to the abuse that comes from some Celtics fans. It’s not just limited to Brown, as former Celtics player Kyrie Irving has also gone through racial abuse during his time with the team and even now when he comes to Boston as an opponent.
The fact that this is happening in 2023 is shocking, and it’s not just limited to the Celtics. There have been incidents of racial abuse towards players in other teams as well, but it’s disheartening to see it happen in a city that has such a rich history of basketball.
The NBA has taken steps to address this issue, with the league introducing a new rule that would ban fans who engage in abusive behavior towards players. It’s a step in the right direction, but more needs to be done to ensure that players feel safe on and off the court.
