Ever since Los Angeles Lakers have parted ways with Frank Vogel, the purple and gold have been desperately searching for the best replacement to bring them back in the title picture. Among iconic veteran coaches like Doc Rivers and Quin Synder, one name which has been stirred-up in the rumor mill is of Juwan Howard. Upon which Skip Bayless was keen on opinionating.
However, Michigan Wolverines coach Juwan Howard has reportedly refused to all and every offer which might have got him to coach the likes of Anthony Davis, LeBron James and co. Having already played in the NBA for eight different franchises from 1994 to 2013, Howard has elite game-reading ability, but Bayless feels the spoken off candidate will have his piece of mind while coaching the young Wolverines than a depleted Lakers squad.
Why did Juwan Howard turn down Lakers coaching chances?
On the same note, 70-year-old sports media personality Bayless claimed that Juwan Howard indeed made the right move and that his current position is far better than the one out in Los Angeles, “I don’t know exactly what’s to love about the Los Angeles Laker job right now as LeBron obviously got tapped on the shoulder by Father Time.”
The Head Coach vacancy in Hollywood isn’t exactly the perfect opportunity for gathering NBA experience from the side-lines. The franchise has already endured one of the worst seasons of all-time and are panicking more than ever. Given that the likes of LeBron James, Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis exist, any coach will need to have his own frame-work done in setting a new way to run things in LA.
Moreover, there is always going to be high expectations because it is the Lakers and LeBron James, the team will always be put into conversation to contend for a title. The bar being set so high from Day One might be unappealing for a candidate.
That being said with Juwan Howard out of the picture, it will be interesting to see which candidate makes his way up to coach one of the most star-studded teams in the 2022-23 season?
