“He starting to look like Plastic Man” Skip Bayless pokes fun at LeBron James’ durability after being injured
LeBron James and Skip Bayless
LeBron James missed his 5th straight game with a strained left adductor. James was already coming back from an ankle injury against the Los Angeles Clippers when he injured his adductor. The Lakers lost the Tuesday game against the Phoenix Suns while LeBron had to sit and watch from the bench. Talking about LeBron’s recent injuries, Skip Bayless told Shannon Sharpe on ‘Undisputed’ that LeBron now looks like a Plastic Man more than an Iron Man.
We have seen James roll his ankle, fall on the ground, tighten his laces and get back to playing normally. Given the fact that LeBron would be 38 this December, it is unfair to expect him to play all-time high and at the same time not get injured. Speaking on LeBron James’ injury, Skip Bayless said, “I am starting to wonder, because I used to call him Iron man but I can’t call him Iron man anymore.”
Skip expressed his concern and doubt whether LeBron would be able to surpass Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s scoring record this season. Skip further added, “he is starting to look like a plastic man to me.” Perhaps, Skip is wrong here to call LeBron a plastic man who spends millions of dollars to take care of his body.
Perhaps Skip was right in his opinion that for “LeBron it is starting to be diminishing returns because if he goes and tries to be LeBron, he is at risk.” LeBron is only two years away from being 40 and no player in history has been able to sustain his career this long. On top of that LeBron has one of the highest number of miles recorded on him, which might play against him at this age.

LeBron James played 8 straight finals, Shannon Sharpe gives a proper account of James’ longevity
LeBron James has been struggling with injuries in the past one or two years, but to call James a ‘plastic man’ is without any doubt unfair to him. James has appeared in 10 NBA finals, let alone the playoffs he has appeared in. Meaning he has played a full season, regular, and playoffs for half his career in the NBA. If that is not enough to amaze; only three NBA teams have appeared in the NBA finals more than LeBron James.
Shannon Sharpe alluded to the fact that most players who went to finals with LeBron had to sit out the whole year with injuries. Stephen Curry had to sit out the whole season with thumb injuries, Klay Thompson had an Achilles injury, and Kevin Durant had an Achilles injury. All these players have appeared in LeBron’s only a few of the finals. Criticism of LeBron’s recent injuries is not only unfair to him but also expecting him to do things that are perhaps not possible, especially after such a number of miles on his feet. However, James also needs to be careful about his use in the game, and his minutes’ restrictions because come playoff time he needs to be ready.
Lakers in absence of LeBron James had won three consecutive games against Brooklyn Nets, Detroit Pistons, and San Antonio Spurs before losing to Phoenix Suns 115-105 on Tuesday. James is expected to make his return against the Spurs in their next tip-off, however, nothing certain has been updated from the Lakers and coach Darvin Ham so far. Moving forward LeBron and the Lakers have an easy schedule against weaker opponents, which might help them get back in the rhythm.
