“Is it possible that the Lakers are tanking?” Skip Bayless reacts to LeBron James’ 8-turnover disaster against Nuggets
Skip Bayless and LeBron James
LeBron James’ harshest critic Skip Bayless once again launched scathing attacks on the 4-time NBA champion after the Lakers’ latest loss which saw them get demolished at the hands of the Denver Nuggets. James and Anthony Davis teamed up to score 19 and 22 points respectively but fell short in their efforts against the Nuggets. Russell Westbrook was made to sit out of the game owing to his injury but the Lakers still couldn’t manage a win.
Speaking on the show ‘Undisputed’, Skip Bayless ripped through LeBron for his poor gameplay and 8 turnovers against the Nuggets, something that is almost unheard of for a player of James’ stature. “LeBron was disengaged garbage and I don’t get it. I predicted that if Russ didn’t play, I thought it was a golden opportunity, even in a tough road game in Denver, to make a statement.”
Following their latest loss against the Nuggets the Lakers are 0-4 down in the Eastern Conference and now find themselves in the bottom position just below the Sacramento Kings, who too have a similar record after 4 games in the regular season. Nikola Jokic, the current MVP and a two-time winner, recorded a close-to triple-double with 31 points, 13 rebounds, and 9 assists. In the victory, Bruce Brown, Jamal Murray, and former Laker Kentavious Caldwell-Pope each contributed 18, 13, and 13 points.
LeBron James and Co seem to be tanking after their series of losses
The Lakers have a massive chink in their armor and that’s their shooting, something which they just can’t seem to fix and may not be able to fix given their current roster. LeBron James is being blamed for this as he is said to have played a pivotal role in signing Russell Westbrook and letting go of players from the 2020 championship-winning squad.
The lowest percentage 3-point shooting rate of any league club is that of the Lakers’ 22.3. They are firing ineffectively everywhere. In terms of field goal %, 3-point %, and free throws as well as points made per game, LA ranks in the bottom five. Their performance against the Nuggets was the same as it had been in their previous three contests. The Nuggets’ double-digit advantage was briefly trimmed to six points, but Denver soon picked up the pace to win the game by a score of 11.
However, there are positive aspects of this club as well namely, defense, which is ranked fourth in the league, their tempo, which is second in the league, and, most significantly, superb ball movement on offense. Despite all of this, the team’s demise may result from just failing to sink attractive looks, but they appear to still have hope. Just outside the top 10 in the league, the Lakers attempt 30 3-pointers per game.
