“Luka Doncic will not be happy long-term with Kyrie Irving,” Skip Bayless reasons why the Mavs’ new duo won’t endure for a long time
According to sports analyst Skip Bayless, pairing Luka Doncic with Kyrie irving would not make the young star happy in long term. Kyrie sat out against the Denver Nuggets with back tightness.
Kyrie irving and Luka Doncic
The question surrounding the success of the Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic pairing has been a subject of speculation since the trade. For many, it was a bad pairing by Mark Cuban. One of the many reasons that NBA fans and pundits thought the duo would not be successful was because of their style of play. Sports analyst, Skip Bayless is among the people who believe, Doncic would not remain happy with Dallas Mavericks for a long time in playing with Irving.
Skip claimed that the Slovenian superstar will eventually grow tired of Irving given their identicality of style. “I’m on record and I’ll triple down: Luka Doncic will not be happy long-term with Kyrie. They’re too much alike,” said Skip. Highlighting the fact that both Kyrie and Luka have the same style of play, Bayless said that both players maximize their ability while they have the ball. “They need the ball in their hand and they need to shoot the basketball,” said Bayless. Skip also pointed out the problem that both the players play like a point guard and not like a guard and the center which makes for a perfect pairing. “You have the guard and the center, guard can feed the center,” he added.
Skip also added that due to the arrival of Irving in Dallas, Doncic, and Irving, are being forced to change their playing style, which would ultimately dissatisfaction for both. “They can both assists the basketball, but Luka is turning into more of the pure point guard and Kyrie is now the designated shooter,” Skip concluded.
Kyrie Irving sits out against the Denver Nuggets with lower back tightness
Irving has been having an excellent season so far and has also been playing with a lot of consistency. Since joining the Dallas missed his first game as a Mavs player. He was ruled out against the Denver Nuggets with tightness in his lower back. The game against the Nuggets was the last game for Mavericks before the All-Star break. Head coach Jason Kidd wasn’t sure what it was. “It happens. Could have been from a fall in that game the other night,” he said.
Irving has averaged 28.3 points in his starting games for the Mavs, before sitting out against the Nuggets. Both Doncic and he have taken the floor, together, four times so far and they have lost both, which already is sending a bad signal for the future. Other key players like Davis Bertans, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Maxi Kleber also missed the game due to short-term injuries.
